Re: Help with building a 4 bay HDD enclosure

What I am not sure about is the backplane. i was thinking of just getting a 4 port multiplier/1 esata connector card like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Sata-Multiplier-Adapter-Port-Router/dp/B00QAPO9RO/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1433395775&sr=8-12&keywords=sata+port+multiplier Neat proje...

Re: Help with building a 4 bay HDD enclosure

Yeah, permanently shorting the black green wire will do it. Sans digital also makes a drive cage that will do it for you. It's basically a cage, fan, and plug for the atx psu connection with a switch, see below, I've seen that for ~$25 on sale sometimes. http://www.amazon.com/Sans-Digital-HDDRACK5-...

Re: Help with building a 4 bay HDD enclosure

You could mount a spare old PC board just to conveniently power up the drives, with the internal data cables disconnected and the external card/cables hacked in place. The spare system may come in handy for diagnostics or formatting, but then you'd need an OS on bootable USB or one of the drives. u...

Help with building a 4 bay HDD enclosure

I've been trying to avoid buying a 4 bay esata/usb3 enclosure for some time now. Reason being is that i have 4 wd 1tb green drives that i want to move out of my pc case and replace them with an 8gb seagate archive HDD. I just can justify paying over $100 for something that will hold $20 worth of dri...

Why Amazon would make this is beyond me. its on their front page. its pretty much siri with no visuals. There should be a section on TR's board called Why Would Anyone Make This?

The R9 280X would be replacing my Asus Geforce 9600 GSO 512MB DDR3 card. I know, right? Hopefully I'll be able to play games above 640x480 rez. Its gonna be put in my good ol' Antec 300 case with an MSI 790FX-GD70 and 12 gigs of DDr3 1600 ram and a phenom II 965 BE o/c'ed to 4Ghz. http://i4.ph...

Dear Diary, Thanks for installing a Ceton InfiniTV 4 cable card tuner to keep me company while my owner went to his chemistry class taught by his mentor, Walter White. Re: Win one of three Asus Xonar sound cards

My love for music is undeniable. But what I love more than listening, is a desire to create music. I have a pretty modest audio studio setup that will soon need a few upgrades. I wanted to get into music creation when I finished college, and the itch was ever so aching to be scratched. My so called ...

My backup device, circa 1995. One and a half decades later, it still works perfectly on the same LS-120 disks, unlike some zipdrives. I got this way back when Iomega was churning out nothing but garbage (even to this day  )! http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/albundyhere/Hardware/SupahDupah-...

The cowon S9 is a nice player, but if your considering it, you should open your mind beyond the commercialized expensive junk thats in stores. Take a look at http://www.anythingbutipod.com and http://www.pmptoday.com. It has a good selection of the latest players coming out and should give you a goo...

Leaked RD890 shots

Fudtacular shots! I cant wait for this chipset to come out!

http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?optio ... &Itemid=37

supposedly, this chipset will bring legacy-free boards. I'd rather get two pci-e 4x or 8x slots than regular pci these days.

Re: my RE2 died. looking for cheap recovery service.

Is the drive recognized at all? If it is a mechanical failure you may be able to recover some data off the drive by throwing it in the freezer for a few hours and then immediately connecting it to a pc. LOL! agreed. Metal contracts when cooled down below zero. dont know if his drive has scratches o...

One advantage (at the cost of $$ of course) is that if you happen to upgrade your motherboard, you should be able to carry the same array over with no problem. Usually switching motherboards means switching the chipset and the RAID array created is often not readable by the new chipset. Then you ar...

Re: H.264 Acceleration

Believe it or not, the ATI media player actually did the job well on my mkv containers. I even tried 720p on a o/c p4 2.4ghz to 3ghz and it was hitting 35%-45% cpu while PowerDVD was doubling that figure. 1080p was too choppy on the old system. I'd try coreAVC and see what it can do.

Re: Help with new System

I know less about storage, but are you sure you want to go with RAID 0? Performance improvements are not massive for typical desktop use, you'll end up with half the disk space you've paid for, and twice the danger of data loss (if either drive fails, you lose everything). Regular backups FTW! I hi...

Re: Creative's new X-Fi Fatality Titanium Ultra Mega Crap PCI-E

Yay, sound card competition. Huh, it's even funnier that it seems to have the same form factor as the PCIe X-Fi Xtreme Audio... which means it really isn't an X-Fi at all, just dressed up like one. That and the borrowed D2X EMI shroud. Good luck, Creative. funny thing is that nothing is mentioned a...

Re: Why did so many 90s genres die?

It all started with Dont Copy That Floppy theory and the mp3. Then the worst of the worst happened and American Idol killed off any hope of making good music and Dont Copy That Floppy made everyone a pirate, thus making pc games suck from that point forward.
