Re: Intel Processor bug incoming?

Why would we not want people to link to other sites? Other sites, probably no reason. Other tech sites, not so sure, which is why I held back. So an update on the benchmarks, seems like they're all a waste. Things have been happening really fast and the benchers didn't know it was all opt-in. Is th...

Re: Intel Processor bug incoming?

It took me a second to think what site it was too. It's an abbreviation i've never come across before. Yeah same here. I was gonna do what you did and link the page but as I was gonna do that I realized I didn't have any idea what the policy was about linking to other benchmark/pc hobby sites, and ...

Re: Intel Processor bug incoming?

Does anybody have any idea how this bug will affect Denuvo (specifically with current and older implementations) and such? It looks like Spectre, not being patched and Intel specific, could be used to do that. (I think I got that right, still murky.) But I imagine that encryption keys are unique to...

I just don't see what all the hoopla is surrounding sexuality in videogames. I personally find the levels of violence and the increasing detail to which they are depicted a much bigger cultural problem than the small amounts of sexuality that trickle through. If your problem is with the exploitation...

Re: Installing Linux on a USB stick.

I used to roll my own livecds. I'd take a bunch of different disros and take their initrds and cowloop files and arrange them all on the thing to get it to work. even used to add them in bits or one by one just by weird multi-sessioning nonsense with mkisofs and cdrecord and then dvdrwtools. even ma...

Nier looked interesting I was really keen on it. Once the reviews had come out and said there was nothing wrong with it I went for it but then found out about it shipping with Denuvo. Hopefully they'll remove it evenutally. Otherwise eh

Re: Is Linux getting easier to use then Windows?

FWIW I had no problems reading a stack of nearly 200 DVD-Rs that were burned 10-15 years ago (raw rips of a substantial chunk of my music collection). I archived all of the raw WAVs off to DVD and kept only the MP3s on spinning media because the cost of HDD space to store the uncompressed rips was ...

The desktop PC is hardly dead however. Yes sales are declining for various reasons such as people are keeping their systems longer, but those same people aren't throwing out their PCs for tablets and smartphones. No, they're just leaving them turned off for days at a stretch since they don't need t...

seems like there is a lot of consensus around the Linux zealotry thing. I disagree with it. I don't think it exists anymore. I've come to think that GNU/Linux/UNIX ecosystem zealots are mainly those who have recently come to *nix. They aren't dramatically involved with it, their technical proficienc...

Re: Is Linux getting easier to use then Windows?

I tried to get Dead Island (**** that game) running on my Jessie install. It wouldn't run because it had library dependencies that weren't in Jessie, having been removed from being in Wheezy, but then yet were again included in testing (Stretch). So I tried packages from testing, didn't work. Tried ...

it'd be just a massive letdown to let politics get in the way of vulkan. maybe it's not just politics, maybe using dx12 makes things x percent easier for them, but it's not going to be that much. it's a massive letdown if they don't get rid of directx and move things over to vulkan and its successors.

Re: What does "You're hanging seven" mean?

I believe it could be a reference to the church, or christian culture. Often times there was a religious connotation or component to older popular culture. Seven banners hang from the book, which is perhaps a reference to the seven seals, a phrase from Apocalypse. The opening of the seals is said to...

Re: So, mechanical keyboards

I don't think it is the stabilizers that make the space bar so loud. It is simply the fact that there is a "hard stop" at the top of the switch travel, and the large space bar resonates, amplifying the noise. And yes, I'm sure the stiff springs of your greens makes it even louder. I would...

Just... where do you even start? So much of the "promise" of cell phones and their potential to improve the world, has nothing to do with how they currently exist, iterate, or direction of the way they evolve.

It has a lot of buttons, a great scroll wheel, and gives an overall impression of good build construction despite having a million ...
