Re: Nvidia Titan V

True. But I'm betting at least double the performance or better for enthusiasts. (..and I'm also betting that there will be plenty of enthusiasts that will purchase this.) Not even close. Gaming 99% uses FP32, and Titan V has 13.8 TFlops, not far ahead of Titan Xp's 12.1 TFlops. There are improveme...

Re: Nvidia Titan V

9x the performance of a Titan Xp. :o (..yeah, yeah, it's teraflops and not gaming frame rate improvements - but it's got to be at least double (for a LOT more money). Only 9x when you utilise the Tensor Cores- which are seriously limited in what they can do. They're basically fixed function deep le...

Re: HP Prodesk G4 400 video card upgrade

Sorry but I will have to buy it from Europe, as I live here. The price difference is roughly 100 EUR which I am more than happy to pay if my problems are solved. Don't worry, it's available from EU vendors too: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-geforce-gt-1030-lp-oc-2gb-gddr5-graphics-card-384-co...

Re: HP Prodesk G4 400 video card upgrade

I would recommend a Geforce 1030. It's small, cheap, and power efficient, but it supports large displays and modern video codecs. It's not exactly a gaming powerhouse, but for office use it should work just fine. EDIT: But be careful which particular 1030 you buy! Some models don't have Displayport....

Re: Chopped down RX 560s

Urgh. Call it a 550ti or something at least. Using the same name for an inferior product after the reviews of the original model is extra gross, and even worse than what NVidia did with the 1060.

What do you have at the moment? Any decent CPU at all?

I'm quite a big believer in upgrading cheap second hand Dell boxes. Try to get something with a Sandy Bridge i5 or better (preferably Haswell i5), and put in a Geforce 1050ti.

Re: Apple working on ARM chips for Macs

It's still an ARM core (not a from-scratch design), and they rely on 3rd party fabs. It uses the ARM instruction set, but it's not an ARM CPU design. It's a from-scratch design. Similar to how AMD makes chips that run an Intel ISA, but they aren't Intel cores. And relying on 3rd party fabs gives th...

Re: Apple working on ARM chips for Macs

Just because they're good at designing iDevices doesn't mean they know how to design/fab an entire CPU chip. Engineering skills in one area generally don't translate easily to another. That said, they did some of their own SoC design after their acquisition of PA Semi (which brought former AMD CPU ...

Re: Apple working on ARM chips for Macs

I heard the news. Apple is trying to reduce relying on their supplier for components. I thought they can do this long ago already, they're such a big company with talented employees and IT experts. They still don't fab their own stuff. Shifting to ARM means shifting away from relying on Intel and t...

This mess has really put me off getting another LG phone. :( I already had to replace my motherboard a year after I got the phone, and I'm dreading the day when this replacement also bites it. I really don't want to go down to A53 cores, they suck donkey dick.

I work on a computer all day, so I have similar concerns. I do most of my gaming with a gamepad now, so that my hands and wrists get a break. Not great if you play competitive online FPS, but I find it just fine for single player.

I'll break out my quote from February, and add some emphasis: I read it already, you don't need to copy paste it again. And you definitely don't need to be condescending about it. Here's my counter logic: -Intel spent $350M to buy a company which was developing machine learning hardware (Nervana) -I...

Re: Chuckula's prognostication skills are failing him

This reminds me of the custom GPU that NVidia made for Apple back in the early Macbook Air. Apple stuck with an older generation of Intel CPUs that didn't integrate the GPU into the package for an extra generation, because Apple didn't want to use Intel's integrated graphics.

Re: GGC errors with compiling C code.

Did you enclose that code in a function? For instance void main(){ } . The part you've quoted is a badly formed snippet on its own (especially that last line, which isn't C at all!), and won't compile. Try taking the sample from the top of the page, and modifying it with a conditional.

Re: More Tech Fake News (Vega is NOT in Intel)

I can't believe that this rumour is still going. It just fundamentally doesn't make sense. Why would AMD start putting their graphics in Intel parts now , when they finally have a competitive CPU architecture again? They would ruin Raven Ridge's major advantage, and handing a bunch of sales to Intel...

For old Source engine games, I'm sure the 1030 will do great, and will make your PC a lot quieter at the same time (so long as you get a passive card).

Re: Pascal FP16 rate question

It's hardware. As it turns out, when it comes to FP16 NVIDIA has made another significant divergence between the HPC-focused GP100, and the consumer-focused GP104. On GP100, these FP16x2 cores are used throughout the GPU as both the GPU’s primarily FP32 core and primary FP16 core. However on GP104, ...
