They're going to unveil the commemorative Halo Alarm Clock, which has an articulated figurine of Master Chief on top, plays the Halo theme tune to wake you up, and has integrated Cortana to spy on you provide assistance.

Re: RTX 2080 and today's games

It sounds like Turing has the same IPC improvements as Volta- simultaneous execution of Int and FP instructions, and interleaved execution of instructions from different branches. Hopefully that will improve shader performance quite nicely. Not to mention it has boosted memory bandwidth from GDDR6. ...

Re: Shadow of the Tomb Raider's performance on the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti with ray tracing enabled - 30fps @ 1920x1080

I'll wait for final results. There are probably clever optimizations that you can make to reduce the total number of shadow rays cast; theoretically you need to cast multiple shadow rays for each pixel back towards the area light to get a nice diffuse shadow with proper contact hardening, but I bet ...

Honestly I'd wait for the next gen AMD cards. It seems a total waste to run a Freesync monitor on Nvidia. Navi should be out next year.

Re: Are there any issues with AMD GPU and Intel CPU combos?

When you say "only a heatsink"... you mean a heatsink/fan combo, right? You've not taken the fan off the heatsink or something have you? As to your original question- no, there shouldn't be any problem using the 480 with an Intel CPU. I have a Radeon 480 working with an i7-6700 in my deskt...

Re: What replacement Graphics Card?

RX560 and GTX 1050 are the absolute minimum you should spend IMO. If you aren't spending that you might as well just stick with integrated graphics because my experience with the RX550 and 1030 is that it's just fast enough to run a game but it actually isn't a very nice experience; You have to tur...

Re: What replacement Graphics Card?

Don't worry about the PCIe version- a PCIe 3 card will work in a PCIe 2 slot, the only difference is that it will transfer data at PCIe2 speeds. Which should not be a problem for the slower cards you are comparing. I'd recommend stepping up to a RX 560 for an extra $10: https://www.newegg.com/Produc...

HDMI converts perfectly to DVI (they both carry the same digital signal for video), you can get a cheap cable off Amazon for a few bucks.

To understand his mind you must only look at a sports fanatic. I follow a lot of Cardinals fans on Twitter. They alternate among three states: actively cheering on the team, sarcastically cutting down the team, or actively angry when the Cubs do well. I've seen all three of those in Chuck as it rel...

Re: Upgrading from an HD 7850

Definitely the 1060 6GB. I did almost the same upgrade, from an R9 270 to the 1060, made a huge difference.

I'd not mess around with the 3GB model- games aren't going to get less memory hungry, and you seem to make your GPUs last a while.

Re: Kaby Lake G use of Vega questioned - no RPM

The Intel side of this part is also a bit out of date (Krabby Kake instead of Coffee). I suspect that the nature of working together just meant that this part took longer to come out than a normal part from either company; co-ordinating everything must have added complexity.

Re: Apple Dumps Intel: CONFIRMED!

Frankly, I would be highly surprised if the next high end Macs jump to in-house ARM designs. Apple will likely take a generation or two to perfect it at the low power end of the spectrum before moving up. A Mac ultrabook on ARM makes sense for them -- it's basically the next step from the iPad Pro....

Switch isn't really an option since I intend to make use of the 65 inch TV. And play co-op with friends. I don't plan on playing much on PC since I'll be moving to a laptop. I guess it's a PS4 then. They are easier to find here and used games should be cheaper too. Switch has a HDMI dock that works...

Laptops that charge and output video over USB-C?

My dad needs a new laptop to replace his dying Dell. He usually uses it hooked up to two monitors, a keyboard and mouse, but he needs to take it away and use it in meetings. Re: Is overclocking safe

My rule of thumb is to never overclock a computer you use for anything important. If you keep photos on it, if you use it for your banking, if you use it for work/homework... never, ever, ever overclock it. The 4-5% speedup you might get is not worth the risks. Finding out that an important file has...
