Re: H.265 decode requirements with Plex

You want to expend compute power converting H.264 -> H.265. And then you want to H.265 -> H.264 for your clients?

Storage is cheap. Compute is expensive. Seems like you want a couple of HDDs, not a new CPU.

I hope not though. I have some shares invested in AMD. But I'll make the joke anyway because it's ridiculous and it must be made.

Bose is insanely good at active noise cancellation, especially where there is ambient white noise like on airplanes. Having said that, the M50s are better in every other way when not on the plane. So there is that to consider.

Re: AMD X390/X399 HEDT Platform

I'm not confusing anything. Of course you are. You keep comparing Ryzen against Kaby Lake. You see Intel has two lineups of high-end CPUs, one 'consumer' line-up that tops out at 4 core Kaby Lake with stunningly high clocks, and another HEDT lineup that is one μArch generation behind, with Broadwel...

Now that AMD has the IPC and efficiency advantage, they are going to ruthlessly run Intel into the ground.

Intel should have done the same to AMD when they had their chance.

Now Skylake Gold? Yeah sure. But it's too late now. Mindshare is all on Ryzen now.

I hope they don't screw it up like they did with Prometheus. Hope is strong enough that I will resist the temptation to read your spoliertext, or watch the trailer even. Prometheus was such a huge let down. It didn't even make basic sense at times. The biologist guy who is super eager to land and ex...

Ryzen 8C/16T at $320?

WCCF is reporting right now that the cheapest 8C/16T Zen part is at $320. Could this be actually legit? Should I purchase a ton of AMD stock today?

How much do you want to spend? Ubiquiti's Edge Router X is a fantastic deal at $50. Pair with a UniFi AP AC-Lite for $80 and you got yourself enterprise WiFi for cheap. Highly recommended.

Pay with Paypal, make sure the invoice states the condition of the card and you're good to go. Just bought one off there less than a week ago. Now the question is whether to SLI them or not.

Just so I understand what you are trying to do: you have a 4K monitor that you run at 1440p - which you then want to use to play 480p DVDs upscaled to 1440p?

I don't even know what to say. My OCD need for everything to be pixel-perfect is causing me to have a seizure right now.

I can bet you real money one of the push tabs is not properly pushed all the way in on the stock cooler. This causes the cooler to be lifted off on one side - maintaining very little contact with the CPU surface. But it still will look properly seated. Best bet is to take the cooler off completely a...

I believe you are looking for Cool White bulbs - ones with a very slight blueish tint of white. I have these for under cabinet lighting for my kitchen - they are very good as task lighting. The daylight ones you've got are close, but they still have a slight yellow to them - which is good for comfor...

Honest question here:

2560x1080 made no sense compared to 2560x1440.

Why would 3440x1440 make sense compared to 3840x2160 ?

I've seen this before. It it's intermittent, it is caused by loose connectors on the panel edge. This is not something I would recommend you try to repair yourself. Depending on the specific panel - it might involve opening up the panel itself. I've taken apart many LCDs to know that this very diffi...

The Schiit stack (Modi and Modi) external DAC and AMP + ATH-M50 Headphones. I love this setup for two reasons:

1. Sounds really great.
2. Price. < $300 all bought brand new. Very happy with the performance-price ratio.
