Re: Has anybody here made a purchase with Bitcoin?

Back in 2013/2014, I used to mine LTC using GPUs. I used an automated arbitrage service to sell the mined LTC automatically in exchange for BTC. I then used that BTC to purchase more GPUs from Newegg. Went through 3 cycles of mining -> GPU purchases -> mining before I hit the amperage limit from the...

Re: Why are game consoles so efficient??

But it's not peasant-tier desktop Windows, it's a heavily modified derivative like what you'd get out of Windows Embedded. Totally different animal, like comparing a Yocto Linux image to Debian/CentOS/whatever. This is false. Xbox One OS is built on top of Windows 10 Core - the same standard one on...

Re: Imgur's deterioration accelerates. Alternatives?

Rent a cheap VPS and host your own photo upload site? Bottom tier Linode instance is $5/month for 25GB of storage and 1TB of data transfer. If $5/month is too much, split it with a couple of friends. Along the same line, just put files on S3. No host even needed. Turn on static file hosting, and yo...

There is no iOS on VMWare. The closest you can get is to run the iOS simulator from Xcode. This is running the x86 version of iOS without hypervisor.

Re: H.265 decode requirements with Plex

You want to expend compute power converting H.264 -> H.265. And then you want to H.265 -> H.264 for your clients?

Storage is cheap. Compute is expensive. Seems like you want a couple of HDDs, not a new CPU.

I hope not though. I have some shares invested in AMD. But I'll make the joke anyway because it's ridiculous and it must be made.

Bose is insanely good at active noise cancellation, especially where there is ambient white noise like on airplanes. Having said that, the M50s are better in every other way when not on the plane. So there is that to consider.

Re: AMD X390/X399 HEDT Platform

I'm not confusing anything. Of course you are. You keep comparing Ryzen against Kaby Lake. You see Intel has two lineups of high-end CPUs, one 'consumer' line-up that tops out at 4 core Kaby Lake with stunningly high clocks, and another HEDT lineup that is one μArch generation behind, with Broadwel...

Now that AMD has the IPC and efficiency advantage, they are going to ruthlessly run Intel into the ground.

Intel should have done the same to AMD when they had their chance.

Now Skylake Gold? Yeah sure. But it's too late now. Mindshare is all on Ryzen now.

Prometheus was such a huge let down. It didn't even make basic sense at times. The biologist guy who is super eager to land and ex...

How much do you want to spend? Ubiquiti's Edge Router X is a fantastic deal at $50. Pair with a UniFi AP AC-Lite for $80 and you got yourself enterprise WiFi for cheap. Highly recommended.

Pay with Paypal, make sure the invoice states the condition of the card and you're good to go. Just bought one off there less than a week ago. Now the question is whether to SLI them or not.

Just so I understand what you are trying to do: you have a 4K monitor that you run at 1440p - which you then want to use to play 480p DVDs upscaled to 1440p?

I don't even know what to say. My OCD need for everything to be pixel-perfect is causing me to have a seizure right now.

Re: High cpu temp on stock cooling 4790k

I can bet you real money one of the push tabs is not properly pushed all the way in on the stock cooler. This causes the cooler to be lifted off on one side - maintaining very little contact with the CPU surface. But it still will look properly seated. Best bet is to take the cooler off completely a...

I believe you are looking for Cool White bulbs - ones with a very slight blueish tint of white. I have these for under cabinet lighting for my kitchen - they are very good as task lighting. The daylight ones you've got are close, but they still have a slight yellow to them - which is good for comfor...

Honest question here:

2560x1080 made no sense compared to 2560x1440.

Why would 3440x1440 make sense compared to 3840x2160 ?
