Re: Shield Console woes

Desktop resolution switching is a toggle in the steam settings on the PC that’s actually hosting the steam stream. Thanks, Ill take a look for this. I hate navigating steams setup menus and I wasn't sure if nvidia was doing it or steam. Hopefully even at 1080 it will at least leave my TV at a usabl...

Re: Shield Console woes

yes, that be the one. Cool, thanks. A few thoughts. 1. Something is totally wrong with either the 5GHz band on the Shield or with the compatibility of your router and the Shield. It should work totally fine. Maybe check for firmware updates (for both) and see if anything changes (i'm sure you thoug...

Shield Console woes

I have recently updated the Roku stick in my theater room to an nVidia Shield console. The Roku worked flawlessly for what I asked of it, but the thought of having all the same functionality, plus google play store and nvidia link/steam-stream, sounded to good to pass up. Unfortunately, I have been ...

Re: What cricket products are you eating?

I don't think that 'hiding' it in our food by milling it is the way to go. I generally prefer my food to be as little processed as possible. I am not opposed if this becomes a replacement to subsidized starch. Corn/potatoes/flour make up such a high % of the western diet and for the most part need ...

I've replaced too many fans where a gung-ho user has stripped the hub of blades using compressed air to ever consider suggesting shooting compressed air into a fan. Even if you don't strip the blades off, you're sending dust and fluff exactly where you don't want it to go [and where it won't get du...

Not sure what is worse, "It's worked like that for years" or "this is a recurring issue, I need this permanently fix. I am sick of calling for this 3 times a week" for operator errors. My biggest pet-peeve are people who are blatantly calling tech support to get out of their own ...

Re: Investing in Hardware

This whole idea of investing in Hardware is rather silly. The only real way of getting your money's worth out of any hardware you buy, is to use it as we should be doing in the first place. Now that said, I can see collecting older hardware that are considered to be the classics of computering such...

I wouldnt be surprised if old videocards become a collectors item some day. TBH, I wouldnt mind paying a pretty penny myself for an xfx geForce 1,2,3, or 4 in original packaging with the bulldog boxes.

So, I was going through some totes of old hardware and I came across a pair of Crucial DDR4 16gb x2 ECC memory modules I bought two years ago for a sever I was putting together. Re: First time home buyer

Some updates for you guys. Looking nice. Would recommend running a bit of Cat6 to the main floor rooms and coiling it behind blank wallplates before finishing that basement ceiling though. It's a pain to run cables through finished spaces later. Not going to finish the ceiling in the basement. It h...

Some updates for you guys. I found out house already had 200amps coming in so I was good their. 5gz reception with the router in the great room reaches every square inch of the house so I did not bother running cables (yet), except between the router and my PLEX server, which are actually in the sam...

Oh I never said 3-4 star recruits aren't any good, I am just saying there are a lot of REALLY good teams with only 3-4 star recruits that I can sleep easy about. Will there be anything left standing in Division 1 NCAA basketball after the FBI gets through with it?. you're talking about occasional use that sounds like a bit of fan noise and shorter lamp life won't matter, so I don't see any reason not to go for the highly-rated Optoma you linked. Very true. And looking into the LG smart app store it doesnt look like it supports plex so there isnt any money sav...

Re: Projectors - need advice

I finished doing some research and I may end up spending more and getting an LG PF1500 I am not certain what the LG Smart TV app selection is like or if it has PLEX or UFC TV, but the built in TV Tuner plus the low noise, and LED Bulb shelf life are big enough wins.

Re: Projectors - need advice

Yeah quality and some actually well written reviews and comparisons are a bit lacking for LED projectors. Most of the ones I see are tiny short throw units as well. If I knew how to get something in the quality, latency, and throw range of the Optoma HD 142x but with an LED bulb for under 1g I would...

Projectors - need advice

So, I don't consider myself anywhere near competent when it comes to my knowledge about projectors. I feel like I know enough basics to buy something in the ballpark of what I need functionally and with in budget, but trying to look at one projector vs another to tell which is the better buy goes wa...

"PCI GPU Support One x16 or Two x8" - This chip is clearly earmarked for mATX/mITX. That said, I am curious why they list PCI GPU support and not give a total PCI Lane count. I can live with one 16 lane PCI port in a ryzen build; but I would also look to add m.2 so long as I am building sm...

Just discovered a new band this morning. Seven Kingdoms - Neverending

Powerful clean female lead with beautiful guitar harmonies. Reminds me of The Agonist without growls.
