Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Just got back from the Wi State Fair. Took my girl to go see Alice Cooper for her first time (my second). Awesome performance as always. Youtube was also kind enough to recommend me something new yesterday that I quiet enjoyed. The band Decapitated is a technical death metal band, which is usually o...

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

JBI I tried, but failed. Where is it written that modern prog rock MUST come with Metallica-style crunchy guitars (IOW, does 21st Century prog really mean prog-metal)? Not a written rule, but definitely seems to be a trend; prog metal is probably the most popular prog offshoot these days, and there...

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

New Omnium Gatherum single dropped this morning - Gods Go First

Just realized while watching the video and confirmed through wikipedia that the lead guitarist for Omnium Gatherum is the same lead that featured on Insomnium's Winter's Gate album/tour.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

I'll echo Redocbew's comment. Until a few years ago I avoided anything with growled vocals too. I eventually acquired the taste by listening to Opeth's entire back catalog in more-or-less reverse order. Their last few albums have all clean vocals and a retro prog rock vibe instead of death metal; t...

The Moody Blues - Tortoise And The Hare Ironically, currently listening to a Moody Blues cover of Nights in White Satin by the prog meal band Oceans of Slumber. Been bouncing a lot lately between that band and JinJer another prog metal band with a very talented female lead. Checking out Amorphis to...

Working for me this morning, less than 8 hours remaining to enter. Given that there's no form to fill out or Captcha to complete, I'll bet the lottery pool is completely bloated with multiple robot entries. Probably, but they do say in the terms that all automated entries are being automatically el...

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Decided to check out the band Amorphis for the first time this morning. I am about 2 hours into their youtube and amazon prime playlists and I haven't heard a song I don't love yet. They are about as far on the melodic side of MDM as one can get but very high energy and no doom or gloom feel. They s...

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Thanks for the heads-up on the MDM tour. My wife and my musical tastes have diverged quite a bit over the past couple of decades, and it seems MDM is one of the few current areas of overlap; she went MDM a few years back, and I've kind of circled back around to it over the past couple of years via ...

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Finally sitting down and giving an appropriate go at Omnium Gatherum. Admittedly, when JBI first recommended them to me I was sitting on 10 new albums to go through and only gave them a conciliatory listen. I liked what I heard but forgot about them. Thought I would give them a second try now that I...

Emphasis on the point that MS "may" bypass the activation for you. I know someone personally that spent 4 hours playing phone tag with MS trying to get this exact issue resolved after a mobo went belly up on him and needed to be replaced. In theory they could have resolved the issue for hi...

New Ghost album Prequelle out today. Hopefully the cd will be waiting in my mailbox when I get home but I will just have to enjoy the tracks on Youtube until then.

Faith so far is my favorite track on the album.

Thurisaz - Circadian Rhythm (2007) More random Euro-Metal tonight (though not Scandinavian this time, they're apparently Belgian). Just stumbled onto them, never heard of (let alone heard) them before. Wikipedia seems to think they're Black/Doom/Death Metal... not sure I 100% agree with that. I hea...

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

@ Insomnium tonight. Their opener Oceans of Slumber has got some real talent and well worth a listen. The lead singer has got herself one hell of a set of pipes.

Jbi- ill check your recommendation out on Tuesday when im back at work.

Re: New washing machine

One thing worth bearing in mind about the negative reviews for modern day washing machines has to do with HE more than build quality. Meeting those efficiency standards and cleaning highly soiled clothes is almost a miracle. I bought a front load Maytag 2017 model and I love it. It was DOA but the M...

Re: DIY Theater Room

Looks good! Only thing I'd recommend is grabbing a HDBaseT extender instead of the extra long HDMI cable. I did have some signal loss initially with the long cables but after shortening the cables from the console to the wall from 6ft cables to 3ft cables the issues have all gone away. If I need an...

Re: DIY Theater Room

Looks fabulous. Great job. How is the sound with all those hard surfaces? Sound is fine, not terrific but the it is also only a sound bar with satellites and sub. The system pushed enough dbs but not enough to create an echochamber. I think the open ceiling trusses help trap and absorb sound and di...

New Kamelot album The Shadow Theory So far it's pretty good. Not as many hooks as Haven but I may just need more listens. No Alyssa White contributions on this album from what I can tell. Mostly just trying to put a few of the new melodies to memory before their tour hits the midwest next week.

Up here in Green Bay we saw 65mph winds and about 2 feet of snow with drifts in places as high as 8 feet. Multiple buildings with collapsed roofs and several roads in the valley are flooded from the Fox River which had already seen its ice thaw earlier in the week. I spent much of yesterday on a 15'...

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Swallow The Sun seems a little dirge-ey. Still intend to give it a few listens to let it sink in (or not). They can be when they choose to be (depends on song/album); but most of their stuff has really good range. Finally got Songs From the North CDs in the mail, so I can toss this up on PLEX and g...
