Re: Something's different...

It appears to me that the new owners(?) have completely failed to note the biggest strength of Tech Report. Unlike most mainstream websites, most readers here do not come to Tech Report because they clicked a link when searching for CPU review or whatever. I'm very sure most of the traffic is direct...

Re: Laptops that charge and output video over USB-C?

I never used a docking station, but I always assumed they are what the name says - that is, you dock your laptop in it, it connects through some proprietary socket and doesn't require any cables between laptop and the station. If that's not how it works, then I fail to see any point in having a dock...

Re: Your Impressions of Curved Monitors

I own curved 21:9 monitor, 34''. What I can say is that it absolutely doesn't matter, basically what Krogoth said. The curvature is way to low to change viewing angles or distance to eye in a significant way. That doesn't mean it's a bad thing - you adapt very quickly and stop noticing it. As for de...

Not in this case, the printer simply connects to existing wi-fi network. It worked perfectly with the previous router and I need this functionality, as then main PC doesn't need to be up for the printer to be available.

Re: This G3258 goes to 1.7V

Heat and voltage aren't independent causes of wear. AFAICT, every 10C increase basically doubles whatever wear would be caused by voltage/current. See also how LN2 allows over two volts, which would be insta-frying stuff on normal cooling. 100C at normal voltage is fine, and 1.5V at 50C would proba...

Re: Interrupted wi-fi connection, new router

Ok, it looks like changing drivers to an older version didn't help and moreover, the fault is not on the laptop's side. I have now had the issues with printing from my PC as well. Any other ideas, what to check? Printer seems to be connected to the network, but again, it receives only part of a page...

Re: Interrupted wi-fi connection, new router

I have changed drivers, actually to an older version, from HP website, compared to what I had installed (presumably by Windows Update). I guess there was a reason why HP had older version (from last year) on their page. I need more time to see if it fixed the issues, so far it looks good.

Interrupted wi-fi connection, new router

Hello everyone, so, I'm a total noob when it comes to routers and wi-fi technology and I encountered some issues, I hope someone here can at least tell me some basic information how to diagnose the problem, or point me to some place where I could read some solid information on the topic, for noobs. ...

To be honest, with ideas similar to described here: http://samy.pl/evercookie/ I long ago lost hope there actually is a way to completely hide yourself from tracking by the big corporations out there. Not that it stops me from using ghostery, but I'm just doing it to feel better, not because I belie...

I couldn't believe they would do something like that, but here it is, on their website: https://community.amd.com/community/gaming/blog/2017/03/13/amd-ryzen-community-update Temperature Reporting The primary temperature reporting sensor of the AMD Ryzen™ processor is a sensor called “T Control,” or ...

Personally I lost hope to ever get a printer that will not had some issues after a couple years. I had similar experience as you with HP, so I bought brother printer. The best new feature (at least I think it's new, I haven't seen it in older versions) for me is search function ("tell me", for finding a specific option). It's incredibly helpful for someone who doesn't work in the tool everyday and has a need for some specific, but quite rare functions f...

Re: GTX 1070 Gainward Phoenix

Thanks for the answers. I'm not convinced that a GeForce GTX 1070 is card enough for 5 MP / 3440x1440 gaming, see e.g. http://techgage.com/article/nvidia-gefo ... -gaming/2/ but if you have a R9 270 then you already have a problem and this is a step up... can you wait, as AMD's Vega is due really so...

Hello, First, let me start with a little history, if not interested, please skip the next paragraph. At first I thought I will buy something from the 9 series if it...

Re: Apple Takes 104% of All Smartphone Profits in Q3

@Ludi: no, I don't understand your math at all. To get percentage A has in all profits, you simply divide A by the total profit of the industry. So, in my example, it would be A/(A+B). Why would you divide A-B by A exactly? And my last example was about B having 10 dollars loss (point is that the lo...

Re: Apple Takes 104% of All Smartphone Profits in Q3

@adampk17: I didn't say the math was wrong. Math doesn't care what you feed it and if you feed it something that doesn't make sense, it will give you back a number that doesn't make sense as well, like in this case. Just like in statistics, if you torture numbers long enough, they will tell you any ...

Re: Apple Takes 104% of All Smartphone Profits in Q3

This doesn't make any sense. What would you say if the whole industry had a loss, but one company? Then what, that company would make a negative % of profit? It doesn't make any sense, it doesn't show anything, it's just a useless number. Not that I have any knowledge in those things, but isn't mark...

Re: Whats better: 2x-1920x1080 or 1x-3840x2160?

For games that don't support 3440x1440, just enable GPU scaling with fixed aspect ratio and use it as a 2560x1440 monitor (or play in a borderless window). Nobody's forcing you to use ultrawide resolutions if the game doesn't work with them, it's just really really nice to have if the game does sup...

They are trying to make all the charts comparable at a glance to have the same effective vertical That would be fine, but they are inconsistent in that. Good grief. What a huge mess. There's bound to be some chairs being flung around at AMD HQ as we speak. Seems to me AMD has a lot of rookies working for it. What a tragedy. Anyone knows if there is a speed limit when the car is driving itself? From the diagram I also agree it was the other driver's fault, but it also looks like the tesla was driving very fast, so the other driver might not even seen it when he started turning.

Re: Performance difference rx 480 4GB vs 8GB?

Thanks, that's what I was looking for.

It seems that 4GB might have much worse stuttering in some scenarios (well, specifically in GTA at 2560x1440, but that is also the only graph they showed with 99th percentile FPS and not overall average).

Performance difference rx 480 4GB vs 8GB?

Hey guys, I cannot find any reliable review comparing 4GB and 8GB performance of rx 480. I vaguely recall some review that had that and the difference was quite bigger then I expected (well, I mostly expected no difference), but I can't find it anymore. I suspect the difference might be bigger for h...

Saying Libre Office or OpenOffice is good enough can be very misleading.
