Re: What are you running in a VM?

Home Right now I am running 4 Server 2008 VMs, 2 of which stay up full time. I also have 7 XP VMs that come up or down depending on what I am doing. I use it to mirror the environment at work because I have more flexibility here to try new things. This is running on a Phenom II 940 on a Gigabyte boa...

Re: Is D&D still popular?

1st Ed isn't too bad cause it's what I grew up with. My screen has evolved to where all the tables I need are on it. I grew up with THAC0 so I can't really say much about it. I just wish they hadn't moved off the 3 ring binder for the monster manual. It was so nice pulling out what I needed plus som...

Got my truck started and the kids off to school. Using the time now before I go to work to go around and find all the drafts in the house.

Got to love Montana

Just woke up this morning to -19F temp and a -32F wind chill here in SE Montana. Been through cold here before but this is a little ridiculous. Looks like the kids will be late for school since I forgot to plug my truck in last night.

The idea of giving my 754 a last hurrah with a mem/video upgrade is a good one, and I was considering it. It wasn't until I saw the econobox in the October system guide that got me thinking about how inexpensive it would be to make the switch to AM2. Then I read about the performance of the C2D and ...

That's the problem. There will never be a bigger budget. That's how our family budget works. With AM2 I have dual core options, a lot faster proc options, and PCI-E for video. With my 754, the best I can find proc-wise are Semprons, maybe Turions if my board supports them, and it's still AGP. I don'...

What could be more comprehensive than a new proc, mobo, memory, and video card? I basically took the econobox from the system guide, dropped the hd, cd/dvd, case, and ps because I already have them, went single core instead of dual, and went with the video upgrade. Then, if I ever need to, I can pic...

I had originally looked at a memory and video upgrade, but thought a more complete upgrade a bit more future-proof, since skt754 is pretty much end of the line, I thought AM2 would be a nice restart. I had read about the AM2 - AM3 forward compatibility but forgot where. I wouldn't mind looking at ne...

That's what I get for not checking my links before posting. Thanks for the suggestions. Upgrading once a year is a pain in the backside. So many different things to think about. I don't play many of the newer games. My wife plays Sims2 and every so often I'll fire up UT2k4 for a few mins of destruct...

Family computer upgrade

It's time to upgrade the family computer. It is currently a 2800 skt754 with 512M of RAM and a Radeon 9250. is used for email, web surfing, and games (CivIV, Sims2, UT2k4, and similar). The games are sort of playable on the 9250, so I can go with a lower video card if I needed to. The budget is arou...

As much as I'd like a new vid card, I kinda wanted to wait and go pci-e. And trying to sneak replacing working parts past the wife is a little difficult. Now if a part dies somehow, that's a different story.

It's a 9200. It was given to me at a greatly reduced price. I was mainly worried about the futureproofness of the setup.

New parts

My K7D and 1700 finally bit the dust and I'm looking at replacements. Is socket 754 really that bad? I have a friend willing to give me his K8N-Deluxe and a 2800 754 for free. I still have an AGP vid card and 1gig of Crucial PC2700. Going this route would leave me the money to get some PC3200 or bet...

That would be a nice to use. May have to look into using it. Are there 3 ring pages for 3rd ed monsters?

Maybe not a 20th level wizard. More likely a 5-7 th level wiz/ill, spells randomly chosen to reflect captured spell books from dead adventurers.

We use 1st because thats what I am familar with running. We even use casting times and weapon speeds. The only thing we do use from 2nd ed is the monter manual. I like the 3 ring binder. Lets me take only the monsters I have planned to use for the session plus a few extras for random encounters. The...

It could also be a movie he has made himself. I send out either VCD or DVD once a month to my parents, grandparents and in-laws of the kids and their goings on. If I overburn a VCD the players we got them won't play the disc. I just use my capture program to snip out the slow parts: kids just standi...

I agree with staying away from the cheap paint. I only shoot marbelizer too. One of the things I like about my Sheridan is the fact that broken paintballs only kill my accuracy for a few shots. Broken paint doesn't gum up the works like I've seen it do on other guns. Of course the half pound hammer ...

My gun is a Sheridan and I've had it since 1993-ish. Of course, back then they over-engineered it a lot. No experience with the new Sheridans but mine has been rock solid. In addition to the goggles, make sure to keep it under 300fps. Get a chronograph to measure and/or only play at fields that have...

I'm a 1st ed AD&D DM and play Mage (a Marauder). Also play Battletech and StarFleet Battles. Used to play Warhammer 40k until the latest rules changes made the game suck. Last three aren't really RPGs but the miniatures make the games more enjoyable.
