Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

Interesting. I've never thought about entering passwords over a phone which can't supply a full set of special characters as input. If that was a requirement, then I'd probably just disallow any special characters except *, but I'm assuming from your description they didn't do that. Let's just hope...

A "beer explosion" sounds like one of those things you'd think would be kind of awesome until you had to clean it up.

Unrelated: damn and blast these sinuses. Half my head is plugged up. The last time this happened I had orange snot for a week.

I don't think there's any way Threadripper could be compatible with AM4. The extra memory channels alone is going to occupy a decent chunk of space which I don't believe is included in AM4 at the moment.

Re: SFF Zen 8c/16t system.

I have seen ITX boards with 4 dimm slots, but not with a CPU this big. The only thing I can think of which would make that doable is if they added little daughterboards like Asus did with the Maximus VIII Impact. Otherwise there's just not enough room.

I didn't even know they had made a movie out of Cell. Stephen King adaptations have been pretty hit-or-miss. I'm hoping the upcoming Dark Tower movies don't fall into the same trap.

3D printers

I was reading the other day that there's copper infused PLA filament available now which let's you create stuff made from(mostly) real copper on an "average" 3d printer. That turned out to be a very bad idea because now I've got all kinds of ideas(mostly related to watercooling) on what I'...

There's no external drive bays in the Node 304, so if you wanted to keep an optical drive around you'd have to use a USB drive.

Node 304 and an EVGA G3 650. Probably my favorite ITX case so far. The Cryorig C7 fits in there with room to spare and it's got plenty of room for drives. If you're ok reducing the number of drives from six to four(still more than enough for me) you can also fit a decent sized video card in it. It's...

I had a great science teacher in the seventh grade who made a bunch of very memorable comparisons exactly like that one, so it stuck with me. Gigabyte and ASRock are rumored to be working on ITX boards for Ryzen also, but the details are slim at the moment, so yeah... If a Ryzen upgrade is the plan for the new case it's probably best you hang to it for a bit.

The Synology units are best if you don't want to spend a lot of time configuring stuff. If you're not going to be using the NAS for video you'll probably be fine resource-wise with one of the Synology units. I'd avoid the 2-bay devices from Synology though. They're not really much more than a sata ...

If I do end up getting a 1080Ti I'll probably just get a Founders Edition and overclock it. Well, they are intentionally adding delays and taking measures to ensure that those delays don't get optimized out. So long as it stays sealed you're probably going to be fine as far as things like evaporation are concerned. Isn't the claimed 15% performance increase for Coffee Lake the same thing Intel said about Kaby Lake? I guess we'll just have to wait and see what changes there are(if any) to the architecture. The wiki page on coffee lake lists two stories at WCCFTech as sources, so..... yeah, I'm not going to read...

This distinctly reminds me of Bob Colwell and his lecture at Stanford. He regaled the class with a tale from when the Itanium team cheated at SPEC by hand optimizing an instruction loop. Bob called the Itanium team out and told them that if they could show him a compiler reaching the same conclusio...
