Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

Stack Overflow just sent me a job listing for "Lead NodeJs Software Engineer for Bitcoin Casino".

Seems a bit redundant to me. :P

It does make me wonder though. I wonder how many gambling addicts aren't attracted to bitcoin because they don't know they'd be gambling.

He should talk to the people behind linux.die.net. I'd be surprised if they haven't already done some version of the same project.

As far as ESR being revered and whatnot. Meh, but I admit I don't know much about his background beyond his involvement with the jargon file.

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

I had a similar experience when I watched a co-workers kid with a digital camera. Without even thinking about it the kid wanted to see the picture his dad had just taken right away. That was just how cameras worked, and the idea of getting pictures developed(whatever that means) probably would have ...

Re: 'Gipsy Danger' Workstation

I believe these days the licensing is done per socket? The last time I looked into it even the Home version of Win10 supports many more threads than a home user would ever use. An application can still enforce a restriction on running multiple instances for any number of reasons, but unless you're d...

For 3-5 year olds! I'm just hoping I can find like swim lessons or gymnastics or something that isn't a team sport where they can just get lessons and be around other kids their age. Is there a local climbing gym nearby? There's one here which has a kids program, and climbing is actually a pretty s...

Re: Upgrade path?

I would get the fastest GPU you can afford that won't blow up your power supply. An overclocked 2700k should still do fairly decently, and pretty much any GPU you can get now will be significantly faster than what you have. If there's a little performance left on the table because the rest of the sy...

Re: Nvidia Partner Program - Illegal?

The rumors, conjecture and mistruths go far beyond its intent. Rather than battling misinformation, we have decided to cancel the program.

Translation: Now that the cat is out of the bag you're all being a real pain in the ass, and it's not like we really need this program anyway.

Re: Anand's RyZen+ Review just got revised

Well yeah, there's a million and one things that can make an otherwise decent machine run poorly, and it's usually best to leave things deep in the system like this well enough alone. I'm sure some people will take away from this story that "HPET = bad", but that's not the whole picture at...

Re: Anand's RyZen+ Review just got revised

Yeah it sounds like a corner case for sure. Neither AMD or Intel sounded very concerned about it in the statements that Anandtech posted. It seems like this is really just more for the sake of explanation on why their initial numbers were weird than a story about the HPET timer its self.

What CPU? What amount of bandwidth? How much less than that would be "fine"? What does that even mean? What happens when the CPU is not "fine"? I'm not attempting to convince you of one thing or another, but this seems very much like an opinion stated as fact, and I fear we're in...

Re: AV1 Video Codec

If the only downside to AV1 is longer encoding times I doubt Netflix, Amazon, et al really care too much about that, but a reduction in bandwidth could be a big deal. Codecs for streaming video have seen considerable churn in the last few years. If that continues then I'd expect it to start looking ...

Re: Samsung FreeSync TVs in 2018

Are there any licensing hurdles standing in the way of Nvidia pushing VRR on that same monitor For a variable refresh rate purely defined by VESA Adpative-Sync without any proprietary extensions I would say no, but it's not in Nvidia's(or AMD's) interest to do that. It could easily be that the prop...

Freesync 2 was described as proprietary by AMD last year at their tech summit. Video is below complete with really awful background noise. https://youtu.be/SrrTCz1hyaQ Of course they were quick to say that they'd be working with the rest of the industry, but we've all seen this movie before, right? ...

Secret sauce? =if(framerate<min refresh rate, double frame,do nothing) Doesn't seem that special to me. Frame repeating is only our best guess, no? Re: Need help finding problem ad

The next thing I'd do is probably to use something like Selenium to automate the testing process. That would help with brute forcing the ad selection process, but you'd also need a way extract the ad that's being displayed on each run.

I wasn't referring to Freesync 2 there. I was referring to this - https://gpuopen.com/ as a counterpoint to 'AMD only cares about the bottom line' stuff (which may be true, but at this point NV are the ones being dinks about things elsewhere.) If that was purely altruistic, then it wouldn't have AM...

All that open source code for their game tech vs PhysX/Gameworks kinda speaks for itself. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "all that open source code", but FreeSync 2 requires LFC, and LFC is a "secret sauce". Whether it's done in hardware or software I don't think is parti...
