Monster Magnet - Gravity Well. Side Note: Later Monster Magnet seems to be straight-up Metal, not very psychedelic at all. Not bad, but also not good. Is there another group out there with a sound vaguely similar to Space Lord / Temple of Your Dreams? My Google-Fu is weak, as is my in-depth knowled...

The cricket game on Google's homepage. :P

Every time Google does something like this I think about the time it took to create this thing just so it can be on Google's homepage for a day and then never seen again.

Re: 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T routers available when?

My laptop doesn't have an ethernet port at all. I'd have to get a USB dongle to get a physical connection. In my opinion that's just as annoying as having to use wifi for large transfers.

Re: Memory4less Lies!!

Isn't memory4less the place people were buying OEM-only Samsung SSDs before they were officially re-branded for retail? If they make a habit of selling stuff outside of the channels the manufacturer intended, then it makes sense that support and RMA might be a bit awkward. Aside from that, oversells...

Switching to a less crowded channel can help also. There's a bunch APs around here also, so I did that a few months ago when wireless was becoming spotty. I put Acrylic WiFi on my laptop to check it out. It's a pretty nifty little app.

Re: 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T routers available when?

Most home users use a "router" which combines a router, switch and wireless AP all in one, but it's still the "switch" part which handles communication between clients on the local network, no? Unless you're mirroring backups to the cloud it doesn't seem like there's going to be ...

Re: 2.5GBASE-T and 5GBASE-T routers available when?

Yes, the DHCP server in your router is usually what assigns your local IP addresses, but that doesn't mean all internal traffic is required to go through the router. Traffic between clients on your local network can often go through only the switch and bypass the router completely.

Re: X299 CPU Power Plugs/Temps (+ X399)

My understanding is that efficiency and current ratings vary depending on operating temperature, so they can't really give you a simple number to fit all cases. I think efficiency is usually very high though, and there's a relatively small amount of waste heat for the amount of current that's being ...

Re: Vega FE Fire Strike, on par with GTX 1080

There's probably a way you could make it work albeit without any new features that may be present in Vega. I don't usually work on drivers, but it doesn't seem like Vega is so radically different from Fiji that it would cause a complete rebuild. That being said, I don't buy it. The fact that it's no...

Re: Vega FE Fire Strike, on par with GTX 1080

It's difficult to call anything at the high end a great value these days, but yeah it does help to tip the scales. If this is at all predictive for Vega RX, then I guess I'll continue saving rewards points on the CC for a 1080Ti upgrade at some point. Of course I don't really need a 1080Ti, but my i...

Re: How about an Rx 480... for $640

They might be buying the 1070 in order to avoid GDDR5X. I've heard that with GDDR5's lower latency it can sometimes work out better for mining. Still seems like a silly idea to me though. Comparing the same GPU with two different types of memory is one thing, but I would think the 1080 would be fast...

Vega RX is supposed to have higher clocks, but yeah I was expecting it to do a little better also. Benches from 3DMark are sure to have seen some attention already. Unlikely, as no mammal tastes like chicken. Birds, reptiles, amphibians and presumably dinosaurs do. You've attributed a 'hard' number where there wasn't one, redocbew The 1080Ti is about 30% faster on average than the 1080. If you want to add maybe 5-10% wiggle room because of this being a "soft" number that doesn't really change anything. Buying certain components based on what you thi...

Re: New HTPC build in a Fractal Nano S - ultra-quiet

Yeah it's still a thing. You don't see it used much in PC mods because there's other materials better suited to the job, and duct tape will leave behind gummy, sticky goo everywhere once you heat it up. In this case I wouldn't use it to affix the duct to any components, but just on the duct its self.

Plus, then you'll actually be using duct tape for its intended purpose. Tape on a duct. That almost never happens.
