Re: End of an E®A

More bad news for Sears and Kmart. The one that's been in my parents' neighborhood for like 30 years is closing. No Sears profit since 2010. The company expects to lose $525 million to $595 million this quarter, which would be an improvement from last year. http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/08/investing/...

One of the higher-ups lost his temper. I believe the line was: "You can't prove this is impossible. I want to see dead engineers on the floor before we blow this date!" O. M. G. Psychopaths rising to the top in big corporate. Are you sure your boss did not write it? He was a dev on anothe...

Re: Crazy Manangement Styles

Your VP is wrong. Part of the whole point of having a QA team is that you have people who are proficient at creating and executing test plans. Unit testing should obviously catch flagrant errors, but all he's doing is heaping a ton of unneeded stress on his developers. Of course I agree 100%. Among...

Re: Crazy Manangement Styles

One more: We have a workplace survey we are strongly encouraged to take once a year. IT tends to crap on the survey especially for 2 points -- "Red tape interferes with my day to day work" and "fear based culture". Every year the employees report awful results for these 2 categor...

Crazy Manangement Styles

Just a rant thread about work. I'm sure others have difficult bosses as well. 1) QA defects - our VP got in a swivet that QA defects cost more money than if they are caught by unit testing! Every year, they try to reduce how many QA defects we can have. It's now down to 1 *ONE* per developer per yea...

Re: What are you READING right now?

Can anyone comment on Gene Wolfe, Dan Simmons or Verner Vinge? They're all Hugo winners but a Hugo list can still be a bit hit-and-miss I did not care for Gene Wolfe's stuff. I liked Dan Simmons' Hyperion series, though it got progressively weirder for me as it went on. I'm enjoying James S. A. Cor...

Re: What are you playing right now?

Re: Tyranny I strongly suggest playing with the DLC because it adds a lot more potential quests. I've heartily enjoyed the game and have spent about 35 hours in 2 different runs so far. My 1st run was near done but didn't have the DLC. The 2nd run has a bit more left to do. If worried about game len...

Re: STAR WARS TIME!

If they just rehash the ESB with better special effects, WHAT IS THE POINT? (Other than a billion dollars in the box office) That would be deeply disappointing. Rogue One was very original for Star Wars, even if it borrowed from other previous movies in other genres. Why can't these writers do somet...

Re: Tyranny

There is some DLC. I installed it and started over as a mage. it's a little tougher at the beginning. Magic seems really weak compared to D&D. My first game had a heavy armor fighter, which like many RPG's of yore was easier.

Re: What are you playing right now?

Thanks for the info, Hawkwing. At three main branch paths and ~40 hours, that's roughly 120 which is decent, I'll likely end up getting this when I can. Is there any DLC? Not sure on DLC, have to check later. I don't think the 3rd path is very interesting. If you "Betray your Alliance" it...

Re: What are you playing right now?

Hawkwing74, can you give us an update once you've finished it? Maybe I've been spoiled by years of Bethesda games, but 40 hours seems really short to me; I can't wrap my head around spending money on such a short game. Does it have a lot of narrative branches / replayable? Got 12 hours in so far. I...

Re: What are you playing right now?

Finally started Tyranny. I don't think it's 40 hours the way I play. I am making sure to complete all quests, so it will take longer. I'm finding the story very intriguing. It's better than Torment: Numenera. It may be better than Pillars of Eternity. I'm finding it very well written so far. Gives m...

Re: What are you playing right now?

I enjoyed Darkest Dungeon and it kept me busy for a few weeks but after a bit I kind of just stopped playing it. It is unique but I hated playing a game where i'd start to get a character to the point of being useful/attached to them and then they would get deranged or whatever to the point you can...

I saw so many good reviews that I bough Darkest Dungeon. It's a very unique game. Enjoying so far.

Kickstarter is having some pretty good results from time to time. One wonders if these games would ever have seen the light of day without it.

Re: Darn it, Equifax!

I put a credit freeze on Equifax, Transunion and Experian this weekend. Equifax did not charge me but the others did. I guess since I was a victim of their error, it was free for Equifax.

My wife was not affected so we have that at least.

Re: Darn it, Equifax!

Ugh, I need to look into the credit freeze also. What a pain.

They say I am affected by the breach as well. All I can think of is I wanted to switch cell phone service. No house or car loan or new credit card coming up. I guess I probably need to complete the switch before putting a freeze.

Final Fantasy Record Keeper f2p was trash long before this game was released. I did try that one...I got bored and I don't think they got more than 5 or 10 bucks from me.
