Re: Monitor Sleeps during gaming with HD4850

I'm not sure how this thread came to the conclusion that he needs a new power supply. This doesn't sound like a PSU problem to me at all. Sure 350 W is small, but his symptoms are that his monitor goes to sleep while gaming, and his PC keeps running. I would think that if he wasn't getting enough po...

Re: Folding units giving too many points??

Hmm, I've never heard of -bigadv. I thought -advmethods was the switch that gave you big work units? I guess this is what happens when you're out of the loop for a year. I think tomorrow I'll spend the day throwing volts and prime numbers at my computer, and see if I can whip those 6 cores into shap...

Re: Folding units giving too many points??

http://geatian.dyndns.org:8086/foldingbigpoints2.jpg This is just crazy. The bonus is too big, IMO. Not that I'm complaining. My system is a Gulftown i7-980X, with 12 GB of DDR3 1600. I have it lazily overclocked to 3.8 GHz, which is as high as I could get it stable without monkeying with voltages....

Re: Folding units giving too many points??

I don't think I'm seeing the glitch you're describing JBI; I've only been folding for a handful of days so far, and I've got credit for every one of the units I've returned. Thanks for the link Donuts. Apparently it's the passkey bonus that's doing it. The huge scores started on my 10th unit just li...

Folding units giving too many points??

So, after about a 1-year hiatus, I've started folding again. I started out a bit slow; crunching a unit here and there when the weather was cool. (used the -oneunit switch so I only run one unit then stop.) But last night it was actually somewhat chilly out, so I took the switch out and let her rip....

Love the praying mantis picture, Vold. I used to play with those as a kid; that one looks wayyy cooler than what you can find in Oregon, though. 8) Here's a few recent shots: http://geatian.dyndns.org:8086/IMG_6781.jpg http://geatian.dyndns.org:8086/IMG_6782.jpg http://geatian.dyndns.org:8086/IMG_68...

Re: Professional photo printing

I use these guys: http://www.scrapbookpictures.com/ They're based in Portland Oregon, which is local to me, so that's handy. They have lots of whiz-bang features that don't interest me much, but I've been quite happy with their prints. Tons of customization options. No membership dues; just upload, ...

Re: General photography thread [img heavy]

There's no FBW lag on the 85/1.2; any turn on the focus ring and it responds smoothly and instantly. It's not really full time manual focus though; at least not in the same way that my other USM lenses are. For all of my other USM lenses you can adjust the focus manually with the ring at any time, n...

Re: General photography thread [img heavy]

Thanks! :D The "focus by wire" doesn't have anything to do with auto-focus; the AF works just like any other lens. On this lens it just means that the manual focus ring isn't mechanically connected to anything in the lens. The ring just floats there loose, and turning it makes the lens adj...

Re: Photogeeks -- share your rig?

EOS 5D I bought a refurbished one in 2007. Full-frame was important to me, and at the time this was the most affordable way to get it. Still very happy with this purchase; even with the Mark II out now, I think I'll stick with this body for a good long time. It's old enough that it doesn't have fan...

Re: General photography thread [img heavy]

I've never seen the Aurora Borealis before, but I imagine it's very challenging to shoot because it moves fast (i think) and it's low-light. Very cool pictures considering the difficulty. The rings are really interesting though because it kinda looks like a moiré pattern, but it can't be because you...

Re: General photography thread [img heavy]

Thanks :D Yeah, the 85/1.2 is definitely my favorite lens; it's been responsible for most of my best pics. The focus is really damn touchy wide open though. I went to a wedding once and made the mistake of leaving it at 1.2 pretty much the whole time thinking, "hey, I'll get so many awesome pho...

Re: Drive changed from NTFS to RAW format?

Trellot says that he's already reformatted the drive, so troubleshooting tips won't be necessary I think; the problem has already been solved. It sounds to me like he's just confused why one program reported the format to be RAW, and another program reported it to be NTFS, and is here asking out of ...

True, that hadn't really occurred to me. Perhaps since the condoms are super thin and sensitive, it's kinda like they're micro and soft. And the antenna ... is a premium upgrade for the home? :P

I went to the park yesterday to shoot some ducks, but there were these huge dragonflies all over the place that were much better camera subjects. I don't really have any lenses that are suitable for shooting skittish bugs; my macro lens is the 50mm (have to get way too close), and my 300mm zoom lens...
