Actually, I was only po'd for a day or two. The system is so much faster than my old one that I'm not really upset about it anymore. I was mainly upset that is was a known issue yet the vendor didn't disclose it on the website. Perhaps the onus was on me to do more research, caveat emptor and all th...

The ram works fine at cas 2.5, but if I'd wanted it running at 2.5 I would have bought the cheaper ram. The new bios definitely doesn't fix this - I loaded it last night.

Do you really think they will address this or just continue to push people to buy the more expensive product?

That's bulls**t that I have to find out from you rather than the vendor, but I appreciate the link. I should have known the price was too good to be true. Looks like I need to shell out another $100 plus restocking fee.

CAS 2.0 memory showing up as 2.5 on Asus A7N8X

Hi, I wasn't sure if I should post this under AMD only or here so sorry for the crossposting. Below is what I posted in the other forum. I just set up a new system last night and it mostly went well. I'm a little confused about the memory timings though. When set to spd or optimal it fills in the va...

Cas 2.0 memory defaulting to 2.5 with new A7N8X?

Hi, I just set up a new system last night and it mostly went well. I'm a little confused about the memory timings though. When set to spd or optimal it fills in the values 7 3 3 2.5T I forgot to write down the default voltage, but I think it is 2.5 or 2.6 The memory I ordered is as follows CORSAIR M...

Thx for all the responses. My main concern was that I would be shipped a different part that was bad. (This is purely hypothetical and worst case). Say the motherboard gets stepped on by the fedex guy. While I'm waiting to get it replaced, the 15 day limit expires. Then I go to plug in the cpu, it's...

Buying Athlon retail vs. oem

Hi All, I was just debating whether the 3 yr warranty vs. 15 day oem warranty that seem to be somewhat standard with retail vs. oem makes it worth getting retail. I've noticed a lot of places don't carry the retail version. Any thoughts? 15 days seems like an awfully short time for a warranty, but a...

Major problems with cpu heatsink/fan (sk6)

Hi, I recently ordered and installed the thermalright sk6 with a 60mm fan on my socket A 1.2 gig athlon. The temp dropped significantly. However, I started getting all sorts of weird gpfs, random crashes, etc. I finally replaced it with my old crappy heatsink/fan combo - problems went away. I think ...

Damn! Thx guys. Didn't mean to get you started, but it was an interesting reading experience. Helpful too :) Maybe I'll just do water cooling. I pour the water directly on the cpu right? :P

CFM of case fans?

Hey all, While I resolve my other problem I posted here I figured I'd get a rear case fan as well. How necessary/desirable is it to match the CFM rating of the front case fan? I've seen posts from both the negative and positive pressure camps as well so feel free to weigh in, although right now I'm ...

hmm... the thickness of the thermal grease was actually one thing I wasn't sure about. How thin is good? What's the best way to remove excess? A lint free cloth with rubbing alcohol? I put it on pretty gently, but I suppose the different clamping mechanism could put more pressure on the socket. thx,...

Weird-ass problem when case is closed.

Hi, I recently replaced my thermaltake mini dual orb with a thermalright sk6 and it is running cooler with the case closed. However when the case is closed, weird things happen with windows (I've tried 98se and xp, both are screwed). I get to the login sometimes and then reboot or hang. Successive r...

What res do you play at?

I finally upgraded from my crappy, yet beloved radeon 64 ddr to ti4600. I haven't played with it a ton yet (backordered forever), but I was wondering at what res most people play their games. In the past I've tried to get as close to 1024x768 as possible given card limitations, but now that I have a...

Just make sure you are using equipment on the compatible list. I was having serious issues with a drive that was not. (Why the 320414 has problems when 320413 and 320415 are both certified I have no idea). Actually just stay away from Seagate. I had no issues with any other drive types.

Interesting. I seem stable now (knock on wood). I ended up putting the cas 2 memory in the first dimm slot and the cas 3 in the second. I also stopped checkpoint secure remote from starting up automatically. I believe it was one or both of those two items causing problems. Hopefully I'm stable now, ...

Yeah, it was cpu cooling. And it turns out that there is a nice picture that comes with the equipment. I knew they wouldn't ship assembled and the website wasn't clear on the airflow. It got cleared up when I actually opened the package and I'm running a good 15 - 20 degress cooler now. Howe...

Sorry for this, but I've never modified the cooling on my system before. However the stock fan I got with my system isn't doing the job. I currently have a 1.2gig athlon with pc 133 memory and a tyan mb with the via kt133 chipset. Is it worth buying a new mb (I was thinking of the ASUS A7V266E) just for the purpose of putting in this type of memory? I do some work from home, but I'm primarily concerned with game performance  T...
