I'm just about to get my Opteron 170 back into "the fold" *groan*. What's the best way of doing this with both cores these days? Is there a true SMP client now? Or do I need two instances as before, each bound to a separate CPU core? Also, do I need to track down that neat imagecfg.exe too...

I tend to have a lot of games loaded - new school and old school. CS: Source, GRAW2, Test Drive Unlimited, EVE: Online, NFS series, etc. I also do a fair amount of digital photography with a DSLR - D50 for now, going to a mid-range Nikon chassis shortly. My two 80GBs are just over 50% used right now...

It's repetitive because each time you launch an affinity-sensitive or multi-core-sensitive app, you have to go and set the affinity!

After 3-4 times, it gets a tad annyoing.

You can use the ImageCFG utility to force affinity for each distinct executable. I've done this for both instances on my Opteron 170... it's smooth as glass.

A copper heatsink and 80mm fan is your best bet for immediate temperature reduction. Secondary would be better case ventilation, both intake and exhaust fans with a fairly unfettered airflow to maximize cooling and lower your internal case temps.

that's a tad high. With a Venus 12 on my Opteron 170 @ 2.7GHz, ~22C ambient, I run @ 50-52C full rip, both cores. I idle @ 33-35C. 1.45 core voltage.

Fan at 4600RPMs, too, on the Venus... nowhere near flat-out.
