Re: DRM rears its ugly head in Avatar Blu-Ray

This is where it is going: License for use, not a sale. BIG difference and your rights are totally changed. Going??? This is where we are now, and further serves to illustrate how badly wrong you and the rest the anti-DRM advocates are. You might purchase a DVD or BluRay disc. You own the piece of ...

Re: DRM rears its ugly head in Avatar Blu-Ray

[It hasn't been decided. If the MPAA took a private individual to court for breaking CSS on a DVD they own, so they could watch it un-encumbered on a lets say a Linux based computer, Fair Use would be a defense. A defense that might hold water in that instance. No, it wouldn't. The court would see ...

Re: DRM rears its ugly head in Avatar Blu-Ray

You guys are in the minority. Instead of bitching about it on some random forum about some erosion of your "Media Rights" do something about it. Which is why I keep asking the anti-DRM crowd to design a system that gives them their "free content" while not reducing revenue to th...

Re: DRM rears its ugly head in Avatar Blu-Ray

I didn't say it did. Fair use is an affirmative defense. PERIOD. What I think all parties can agree on: There hasn't been a case of a private individual before a magistrate being sued for removing protections on product they purchased to consume it in a time or venue shifted manner that complies wi...

Re: DRM rears it's ugly head in Avatar Blu-Ray

I do know people blow things way out of porportion. A simple firmware update and now "the man" is phoning home spying on my privacy. Whatever, I also now I have way more real life problems than a simple 30 second firmware update. And that pretty much sums up eleven pages of posts! Make su...

Re: DRM rears its ugly head in Avatar Blu-Ray

Being a software developer that uses a key based DRM wrapper I understand the issues quite well. I'm not sure why that makes you an expert on legal doctrines. Fair use is completely irrelevant to DRM. It is only a affirmative defense against a lawsuit over copyright infringement. It does not confer...

It's becoming an issue of slow erosion of first sale and fair use doctrine. Again, you are completely misunderstanding what those two things are. Re: DRM rears it's ugly head in Avatar Blu-Ray

There is a chance when updating firmware on any powered device to brick it, motherboard, PS3, PSP, ipod, etc. Theres a chance some dust bunny can cause a brick, theres a chance a power surge can cause a brick, theres a chance some roach eating the wire insulation can cause a brick. Whatever....

You're doing a fine job at living up to your forum handle. What freedoms am I giving up? Update the firmware, play the movie. What's the problem? Where are all the G34 mainboards?

You can order the 6100 series Opteron but you can't lay hands on a 2 socket mainboard. Does anyone know when Tyan, or Supermicro will release their EATX offerings? I don't trust Asus on the server offerings they have (and their 2 way board doesn't even do RAID 5). This is frustrating to say the least.

Thanks, I was seeing plenty of 4 pin to 8 pin eps12v adapters. I just wanted a PSU that has it natively . I am surprised that it's as difficult to find as it has been.

Re: Server PSU w/ Two (2) eps12v (8 pin) connectors

Trust me, I have been digging through NewEgg and ProVantage like a rabid, meth fueled gopher. I am now wishing for a listing of PSU connections :(

There are 8 pin connectors out there but usually for a Cross-Fire setup and they can't be used as EPS12v 8 pin cables.

Server PSU w/ Two (2) eps12v (8 pin) connectors

Looking to consolidate our server infrastructure down to one box. Going with dual 8 core Magny-Cours. I need a PSU that has TWO 8 pin (EPS12v) connectors for powering the CPU's. I am seeing PSU's with one, but not two. The only other thing I am seeing is 2 X 6pin + 2 pin. Not sure if that is the sam...

the only strikes, AFAICT, against the PSN are: 1.) fewer people online compared to the 360, but that's correcting itself as people get the system 2.) no cross-game invite system 3.) no cross-game voice chat support #1 doesn't bother me because when I want to play a game I have multiplayer, there ar...
