Overclocking tools

Hello, I've just about got my new lubuntu rig all set up and working as I want it to, now I'm thinking about seeing how much I can get out of this G3258K without sacrificing too much quietness or pushing the temps too close to the max. I figure temps probably wont be too much of an issue, an hour in...

Re: Compatability checking...

Thanks, I'll give it a try with just 8 for the moment and see how I get on. Will primarily be using my own templates which I've already extensively tested and am going to try out bootstrap and foundation, so hopefully can get by with just one or two VMs for the moment (that's my optimistic plan anyw...

Re: Compatability checking...

An SSD is high on my priority list and with my new found enthusiasm (and having just booked in a load more tree work last night) I can probably justify one. I might be able to get a hold of another pair of 4gb dimms for cheap which would bring me up to 16gb, does running a vm on Linux really benefit...

Re: Compatability checking...

Thanks for the suggestions and comments, I tried a few out and am planning on going with lubuntu, I like the ethos of function over form, and tbh it actually looks pretty slick and elegant. Started building the new rig this evening but not finished yet, will report back on how I get on with lubuntu ...

Compatability checking...

I've just ordered a few bits to build a very modest rig, primarily for web development a bit of coding and some media consumption. I was thinking of installing a Linux distro of some sort as I haven't got a win 7 key (I do feel it's finally time to step away from XP though) and can't justify the exp...

Could this be accomplished by creating a boot pen drive, complete with your macromedia suite? Might not be worth the effort though, just for this one class. That would probably work (assuming he can access the BIOS of the target machine to change the boot order, and said machine will boot from a US...

Getting the macromedia suite to run off a pen drive

The title says it all really... I've been trying to find a way to get my copy of the macromedia suite to run off a pen drive as they only have MX at Uni and I want to use 8 as I've been learning how to use that for some time now, and while they are similar, there are some notable ommisions in MX. Be...

I really should go investigate it :) http://www.007computers.co.uk/Images/itchellbanner.gif http://www.007computers.co.uk/itchellbanner.htm The file is not currently well optimised (I could probably get away with losing a few frames and slowing it down a bit), it...

Setting frame display speed in .gifs

I've a bit of a complicated problem. First off, I have a 1.6MB .gif file (I might be able to reduce it by a couple of 100kb's, but no more) that I need to host somewhere. I'm currently hosting on my own b/w, but it's using it up very fast. I've found a couple of image hosts who allow hotlinking and ...

BEFSX41 and trying to use PPPOA :(

Subject says it all really, my ISP switched from PPPOE to PPPOA some time ago (why would they do that!?), obviously nobody thought to inform me of this. I'm still set to connect via PPPOE atm, and for the most part I can connect, but sometimes I get disconnected and have a hell of a time trying to g...

Changing XP's product key after install.

Just installed XP Pro on a laptop, used the original product key for the CD, should have used the one for the laptop itself (has it stuck on the bottom of the laptop), only realised just before I was about to put all the windows updates on... I know I've seen this posted somewhere on here before, bu...

Formating a Laptop, problems.

Hello, I need to reformat a laptop (A HP nc4010 ), I have a cd drive which is attached via USB (so as far as I can think thats useless), I don't have a converter to convert the HD to normal EIDE, I can't think of a way to access it... I don't have the username and PW to log on (although I can likely...

I notice seagate have released the 320GB, two platter, 16MB cache drive that Dissonance said he'd like: Let's hope Seagate is able to squeeze a couple of those 160GB platters into a drive with 16MB of cache. I'd take two. Heh, TR speaks, Seagate listens... Seriously though, although I'm in the UK my...

I do use BT on occasion, but my connection go's all flaky after a short time nowadays, methinks my ISP is screwing with it.
