osX Image Capture - Batch Deletion of non-edited images

I've just now realized the most complete / high-fidelity way to export photos off the iPhone with osX is not to use the Photos program (import to library, export originals, export modified or as JPEG, etc.), but rather to use the Image Capture program -- it allows you to dump the native format of al...

Bios Power Failure Power On Behavior

I’m a frequent user of wake on lan (WOL) and occasionally experience a frozen machine (intel NUC) that either won’t fully shutdown or won’t wake up with WOL after some Microsoft update is applied (potentially temporarily breaking the LAN WOL or windows firewall settings until I get back in to fix it...

Script to Automate Speaker/Sampling Settings?

Every time I fire up my NUC plugged into my receiver, the playback device (identified as SAMSUNG) Windows 10 defaults to 2-speakers instead of 5 (the one w/ SL/SR), and under properties/advanced, it defaults to sampling rate 16 bit 48KHz instead of the optimal max of 24 bit 192KHz. I have to go into...

Re: Converting Reveiver ZoneB speaker output to RCA

Okay, so maybe using the ZoneB option isn't the best way to go with all those conversions. My receiver has my PC and PS4 plugged into it, and I'm using the receiver's ARC HDMI out to plug into the Samsung One-Connect Box (TV) ARC port. I found out the TV does have a bluetooth sound output option, bu...

Headphones -- specifically, a Sennheiser PXC-550 Bluetooth set which supports aptX

Goal is to use them to watch all the content on my TV where audio is piping through the receiver.

Converting Reveiver ZoneB speaker output to RCA

So the native bluetooth transmitter on my Yamaha doesn't use AptX. (TSR-5810) from Costco: http://www.costco.com/Yamaha-TSR-5810-7.2-Channel-Network-AV-Receiver.product.100313478.html Standard bluetooth is on the order of 150ms or greater... AptX is around 32 ms (should be ok for TV watching). The h...

Re: Kaby Lake Nuc CPU Benchmarks / Comparisons

Thanks for all the info.  Looks like I'm set more on the i5 then.  The graphics performance is pretty similar to the i7 (i7 is only slightly faster clocked on GPU), and while the CPU I suspect will have about 30% more horsepower, I won't need that extra speed (will mostly be using as a HTPC and down...

Re: Kaby Lake Nuc CPU Benchmarks / Comparisons

Been reading lots of reviews of broadwell i5 versus i7 nuc units for comparison (since that was the last model to have all 3 CPU types). Consensus seems to be the i5 runs 20 degrees cooler under stress and at considerably quieter fan speeds. Performance delta is about +20-30% over the i5 for the i7 ...

Kaby Lake Nuc CPU Benchmarks / Comparisons

http://nucblog.net/2017/01/intel-releases-kaby-lake-nuc-full-specifications/ I'm going to get myself either an i5 or i7 of the taller NUC to use a 2.5" SSD and for Optane.  However, I'm on the fence between the i5 and i7; the i5 should run cooler (15W) compared w/ the i7 (28W). I plan to have t...

Wake-On-Lan Random Wakes

I've recently implemented WOL on my same machine on Win7 32-bit and have since reformatted/installed Win7 64-bit and also added a wireless printer to my network. Since doing this, I've reconfigured the same port-forwarding, firewall port opening, WOL power-management setup, and network configuration...

I have two sound devices - ATI HDMI audio (outputs from video card to receiver via HDMI), and a creative audigy 2 zs (which i only use to plug a pair of headphones into the front L/R line out). When i go into playback devices, and configure on the creative device, I set it to 2 speaker setup (it def...

eSATA "Smart" Power-on

I'm interested in getting a minimalist device for an HDTV hookup like the Zotac featured. However, I'm certain a 500Gb or 1Tb 2.5" drive won't suffice - luckily, a eSATA port is available. I really know nothing about the eSATA port - i know there are two variants... eSATAp and eSATA (the former...

Class 10 (High-Speed) SDHC Card in Phones

I see a number of 16Gb and 32Gb options for Class 10 (high-speed) SDHC cards. Of course, the target device for these memory cards is usually things like DSLR's and HD camcorders. However, I've yet to see any documentation on whether there's any noticeable performance gain in using these cards (versu...

Phones w/ Most RAM, Fastest CPU

With new phone releases and rumors every week (especially for Android), it seems like specs on phones are becoming ever-more parallel to that of computers - CPU speed, RAM, HD space. With this being the case, I'm wondering what might be the beefiest phone coming out (of the slew of android OS phones...

I was wondering if there's any true performance benchmarks on these three phones. Only thing I've seen is a Javascript benchmark comparing them. Re: PS3 always turns itself on through HDMI

Receiver can either be turned on automatically with the TV (there's an option in the TV settings with Control for HDMI to allow all devices to power on and/or off); however, I've tried those settings both on and off and it doesn't matter. Yes, I have the PS3 remote linked via BT to the PS3; however,...

What happened to your receiver setup? This may sound entirely idiotic, but I was wondering it it would be possible to join together 3 or more stereo mini lines. I have 3 headphone out lines (PC, TV, PS3)... and rather than unplugging/plugging them in every time, I'd like to merge them into a single headphone jack.
