Re: Car accident, what is insurance's responsibility?

Coming from someone who has been hit by other drivers 10 times in 10 years this is what I learned: If you go through your insurance company you pay the deductible and then they go after the other insurance company and reimburse you when it's all over. If you go through the other insurance you obviou...

APC SMX UPS sound levels - 1500RM2U vs 2000LV

The concern about noise levels has caused me to spend way too much time deciding on which to go with, I don't think I've ever spent so much time on a ~$1500 item. The unit will be around people and there is some concern about noise. An existing SMT1500 (tower model, rated for 45dBA) is in the enviro...

Re: Home Network Questions

Hah, a dedicated Linux VM for it? Yeah, I can't complain. We have customers that we install the software on their Windows server and I can't remember the last time we had an issue with it so it's really not a problem anymore.

Re: Home Network Questions

Anyone Set up a home network using Ubiquiti APs? I have a question if you have, What switch are you using for the PoE? Did you stick with Ubiquiti ones or use something else? Also do you use a cloud key? My goal is trying to save money and if I can go with another switch that provides PoE to the Ub...

Re: Nvidia Partner Program - Illegal?

I fail to understand the point of this program. Does Nvidia really think they are saving someone from accidentally buying an AMD card by doing this? They think that someone out there beleives ROG always = Nvidia and so they just click buy on the first ROG card that shows up? From the article: For N...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Until it looks and acts like a properly-regulated financial market, it's just a toy upon which no one should spend any more than they're willing to lose. I'm using the word "mainstream" here in the context of cryptos, not finance at large. Sure, not a good idea to have in cryptos more tha...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

I just see the same scams repeat with a slightly different packaging. Yes, but the analogy to what you are saying here is that beanie babies would have been reincarnated as "Cutey Children". It wasn't. There were plenty of wannabe Ty Warners who I am sure tried, but it didn't take off. Ye...

Now that Nicehash Miner doesn't seem to be playing nicely with Radeon cards (someone correct me if I'm wrong), what's the easiest way to get mining on a Radeon? Take out a second mortgage, buy 10 RX 64's, spend extra hundreds on your power bill, and then get all your profits stolen from one of the ...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

All of crypto could be stolen overnight and people would just start all over again and would build in more safeguards. Just like REAL money. Lol, it wouldn't even remotely start over in the same way, and you know it. Yes, some die-hards obsessed with the idea will restart it, and that aspect of it ...

Heh, I think I made the mistake of forgetting people are a little too personally invested in the conversation. Re: So who here is actually mining?

It's the fact that it is so easy to steal so much of it at once, plus the fact that it is difficult or impossible to recover, plus the fact that a pretty large percentage of the total value of the cryptocurrency "economy" has been stolen at some point. These all point to it not being anyw...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

And that's supposed to make it better? A nominal half billion dollars' worth of unsecured assets from one institution in a digital heist? Right, that's totally ordinary. Happens every day. Not only that, but it was said as if the amount of money in cryptocoins == the amount of money in banks around...

Craigslist too. It's better if you are in or near a larger area. I live in a small town and even I was able to come across some good four post enclosed racks for ~$100 when I was in the market. Took a few months though... Ebay has some cheap ones but many of the roll-arounds aren't deep enough. I'd ...

Re: Video card prices

I think they know that in the end it wouldn't make much of a difference anyways. Instead it's a way for Nvidia to sympathize with gamers while laughing all the way to the bank. It's not like we're dealing with a handful of miners. Even limiting it to one per customer would still see them fly off the...

Gigabyte isn't dictating the marked up prices though, are they? I'm pretty sure they just have their MSRP they follow, I'd think Newegg is making the extra money from the sales.

I don't actually know how web/retail sales work though.

I'm tempted to stick my 1080Ti FE on eBay, if the profit is worth it after they take their cut. I sold all of my video cards on eBay due to the mining craze. The last 1080ti I sold went for double what I paid for it even after eBay and paypal fees. It sold within 10 minutes of listing. I rarely gam...

I've used DisplayFusion for clients, as they wouldn't remember hotkeys. At the time it added buttons next to the minimize/maximize/close that would put the window on the desired screen. This was back in the Win7 days so I'm not sure if they've added any new functionality that would be more what you ...

Looks like the coating is slightly blistered to me? A clearer pic would help. In my experience it doesn't blister like that, and definitely not without some kind of discoloration or desoldering. Re: decided to dust off

I see the picture, but all I see is either some dust or minor defects in the conformal coating (or whatever that coating is on PCBs, pretty sure it's not actually conformal coating, maybe a varnish). If anyone had to deal with the Intel SDS2 server motherboards, they produced enough heat to discolor...
