Re: Something's different...

Sorry, I'm not fan of this new (old now?) style of web design that most websites seem to follow these days.. Give me back my old, text heavy, information loaded interface over this white space filled screen of useless real estate.

Re: What's a good vacuum?

I'm so far happy with my Shark Navigator Pro, but I have not owned it long. You do have to keep an eye on the beater brush and clean that off with pets and long hair. But if I had the money, I probably would have went with a Miele C series. Friend has one and it's so quiet and nice.

Re: RyZen 2 Desktop CONFIRMED... to not have 16 cores

I'm looking forward to my future Ryzen 7 3800X 8c/16t 4.4ghz base + 5.2ghz boost. ;) I would think that the potential future of a 16c/32t chip would likely come with a new X570 chipset to handle the presumed 230 watts required and possibly quad-channel memory. I just can't see dual channel being eno...

Re: Time to finally take the Ryzen plunge?

Most of what I've read seems to indicate only a 3-5% gain going to faster ram. Yes an improvement, but I don't know seems less earth shattering unless I'm trying to eak out every last bit of performance.

Yeah, stock currently. I'll probably push a mild OC later but it's stock cooling.

Re: Time to finally take the Ryzen plunge?

I just went with an Asus Strix B450-F, Ryzen5 2600 and 16gb 2666mhz ram. While it's nice and a bit snappier and can pull off WMR in iracing/elite dangerous. I can safely say if it wasn't for me needing AVX instruction set I could have easily continued with my i7-930@3.3ghz for a while longer. I like...

Re: A good Wireless Router under $100?

You trade some simplicity for general reliability and configuration options ... and also potentially better coverage, depending on your particular house layout. My biggest advantage of going with a router + wireless access point instead of a wireless router is that I was able to put the router in t...

Re: A good Wireless Router under $100?

I appreciate all the feedback and I will probably stretch my budget to $150. From what I get if I buy a sub $100 router i've had others tell me to make sure I can install the open source DD-WRT, but I probably wont. Part of me leans toward the Nightwawk 7000 for ease of setting up, but if I buy the...

Re: Time to finally take the Ryzen plunge?

You don't mention (or I'm blind) of your intent to overclock or let it do its own thing. My take on what i was researching is X470 boards tend to be coupled with better VRMs if you are intending to overclock and need extra PCIe lanes for another graphics card/multiple storage/add on cards. Otherwise...

Re: A good Wireless Router under $100?

Hello All, I'm curious what peoples thoughts or which routers they have had the best experience with. My house ~1500ft^2 and is 2 stories + basement, so I don't think I need an extender. Currently we use the built in XFinity wifi, I did disable the their 2nd network as my kids ipads freaked out abo...

Re: I7-930 Upgrade Opinions/Options? ($300-$600ish)

After weighing the options, I went with new. Sales for Canadian boxing day have started to kick in.

Ryzen 5 2600 $210
Asus Strix B450-F $125
16GB 2666mhz RAM $115

Now I just have to wait for it to arrive.

Edit:Added version of the Ryzen 5. =)

Re: I7-930 Upgrade Opinions/Options? ($300-$600ish)

How about replacing that CA$155 motherboard with a CA$108 Gigabyte B450 Aorus M? Primarily went with a X470 for the flexibility to drop in a Ryzen 7 3x00X when they launch. B450 should suffice, but I was concerned VRMs might not be enough to push the new ones. I wouldn't recommend this path, but if...

I7-930 Upgrade Opinions/Options? ($300-$600ish)

I have a lovely, functioning i7-930 (X58-UD3R/24GB/RX580) that does everything I needed. Up until I bought a WindowsVR device that requires AVX that this chip doesn't have. I'm looking to do an upgrade on the cheap, and I'm absolutely fine going used. As a general rule, my PC gets mixed use weighted...

My point is - AFAIR my previous upgrade (it was Athlon XP-M -> C2Q) it was a HUGE leap. I just find it interesting I there's no such huge difference between my 10-years-old PC and other modern PCs I am working on. It is still perfectly usable! Uh, well, I guess if you're not using it for anything m...

Strange, is vCenter 6.5 not compatible with ESXi 5.5 or something like that? If so I can see why they wouldn't want to update their existing vCenter instance. But this particular department with the new server is in a different office and country, with very little reason to need to be externally ma...

Me and the wife always end up with the same phone..

2x Samsung Galaxy S
2x Nexus 4
2x Sony Z3
2x Pixel

They really have hit the point of being good enough I find. My upgrades are based more on contracts and breakage than features.

Re: RX480 Remorse for not buying?

I must be the only insane person that doesn't really care about power usage. If a GPU that was cheap used 50% more power to hit the same performance level, but it was 2/3 the cost, I can't say I'd care a whole lot... Nope, I tend to agree with you. Power consumption is often given an out sized role...

Antec P180(?) w/ Corsair 750w PSU (i7-930, 12gb ram)
Antec Sonata III w/ Seasonic 550w PSU (q9450, 8gb ram)

If I recall correctly, they were built years ago... Getting time to upgrade or just throw in a RX570 and call it a day.

Re: Horrible Netflix playback on laptops

My best laptop is a ThinkPad T61, OPs would be a great upgrade! I wonder how many people are running a Core2 Duo with an SSD, though - it's surprisingly usable. I was up to about 2 years ago, the screen died. The T61 lasted me a long long time and owed me nothing. I really liked the old T series, n...

Relatively recent games.

Total War Series
Civilization Series
Galactic Civilization Series
Pillars of Eternity
XCOM
Cities Skylines

As you can see, I tend to like a certain style of game.

he's not too concerned about the budget. No need to beat the horse too hard. And yet the OP clearly has a budget in mind, otherwise there'd be a 1800X on that list and not a 1600X. It's not so much that I have a budget in mind per se, but rather I always want to maximize the bang for my buck. I'm p...

Re: Bye, Bloomfield: First Big PC Overhaul

Do you need a new PSU? Rough estimate, but I doubt you'd be past 400watts at full tilt usage with the new build. New stuff, 150w-200w and the old video card looks like it should top out at 150w. I think you have enough headroom to ignore that. I'm building vicariously through you at the moment. =) P...

I've been debating the B350 vs X370 myself. I'm just not convinced the premium of the X370 will increase longevity.
