Re: Upgrading or buying new pc

I don't see any power supply specs listed for that model, and my guess is that will be the biggest limiting factor. Also, does the PSU have a PCIE 6-pin power connector? FM2+ socket can handle Trinity, Richland, and Kaveri APUs, which can still game acceptably with the right GPU. A8-6500 and up woul...

Yeah, cross-architecture and cross-OS Geekbench. DancinJack, have at it. Oh never mind, it’s EU. Save your words.

Phanteks. Hinged panels, magnetic latches - opening up for a quick SSD addition and cable-routing adventure could not be easier. Glass is a good sound dampener, apparently. Here is an example.

I was merrily reading along, and up pops the desktop comparison. At home, next to my desktop PC, I have a NUC7i7BNH, the Kaby Lake -U highest end NUC, with Iris Plus and thus the eDRAM (extended testing we’ll call it). 3.5 GHz, 3.9 all core boost, 4.0 turbo. 2C/4T. Nvidia 399.24 from 09/10/2018 is stable here on 1060, 960, and 660. It's what Windows 10 1803 updates to when you update through Device Manager. I have GeForce Experience installed since I also have a Shield TV, but I dislike the monthly driver release cycle for my cards which are all older than two...

GTX 1060 6GB and GTX 960 2GB (both EVGA SC single fan) and now contributing ~400k and ~175k, after upgrading both systems to 399.24 from 397.64. This is for Frankie now, but afterwards I have to stay ahead of Topinio! I'm currently 4 ahead, and 2 behind JBI.

By booting to an EFI shell. It should be a boot option in most newer UEFI motherboards. I think there is a slightly different utility and syntax for BIOS/legacy/DOS booting.

Re: LSI Card issues?

I don't see in the thread which motherboard or chipset you're using, but if it's consumer-level, it can be very tricky to get LSI cards happy. Typically no UEFI and legacy everything as far as boot settings. Although it sounds like you did get to the init stage, and just didn't wait long enough. If ...

Initializations take forever. If you can build the RAID 1 on another system, where the card is add-on (not booting from it), and use Windows/Linux util to build RAID, you might get more insight.

I guess I could point out that I've had my Evga 1060 6GB since August 2016, so almost 26 months already, and it was $259.99 from Newegg. Still a helluva card, no plans to replace it anytime soon, but I would not pay what I paid two years ago, at this point in time.

What are you using to monitor frequency on Windows? XTU itself I presume? Task Manager is not reliable for freq. I like HWMonitor, Kampman likes HwInfo64.

Really nice list - I love it. You could not only get away with air cooling, you could do quite nicely with air cooling, and it would likely keep things quieter and be less expensive. That's my one and only note, and it's from personal experience. For reference, my self-built office PC is Core i5-760...

Since we're here, I've got a couple bookmarked links for LSI flashing. Probably a bit dated, and one is more cross-flashing Dells back to LSI.

1) Likely possible to find. EVGA usually offers a low-end variant of the lower end chips with this combo. Now if you can get this plus the other criteria, I don’t know. 2) Single slot will almost always have a tiny fan, and sometimes they last a long time and sometimes not. They can likely be unplug...

Your system is working from a failing drive. The directory may literally be missing, as in not to be found. The missing directory is on one of the rotating drives. "Auto" doesn't mean automatic overclocking. Generally it means CPU at stock clock and voltage, and RAM per the SPD. And for the record, jbi was right. My Asus boards do not do any "Auto"-overclocking or raising of turbos or base, or sticking all cores at Turbo (it certainly does...

Do you happen to have an Nvidia card? Just this week my Nvidia HDMI audio driver grabbed control and would NOT let go until I disabled the device. I assume this is related to the ability to stream to my Shield TV because I don't use (and never have) any video OR audio through HDMI on the PC.
