Re: RIP Anthony Bourdain

Maybe this should be a split into R&P but I’d be interested in the age of suiciders in that study. My uneducated opinion is that people aren’t told to suck it up or get over it as much at a young age and so find more of their life unbearable. I take issue with this generalization. Suggesting th...

Re: Lawsuit alleges Samsung, Micron, and Hynix colluded to drive up DRAM prices

I have no problem believing that they are artificially constraining supply (Because they've publicly said that they are!) in tacit cahoots, but the problem is that reacting to what your competitors say in their public filings/earnings calls isn't straightforward collusion. And that, I'm afraid, is ...

Re: Nvidia Partner Program - Illegal?

The GPP sure seems to be anti-competitive by intent. The timing of which just happens to coincide with AMD not being in a position to sell any high-end gaming GPUs in any quantity to speak of for the better part of a year (due to Vega supply issues and the crypto boom impacting AMD more heavily from...

In all seriousness, until memory prices drop 50-70%, I'm not purchasing anything. I can be a very patient person. I sat out last year, I can sit out another year (or two, if necessary). The industry is still out of whack. 50-70% drop in memory prices within the next 2 years? Sorry, but I think you'...

Re: Kaby Lake G use of Vega questioned - no RPM

It was a bad pun. No RPM ? Trouble spinning? Get it? I'll let myself out. Nothing wrong with the pun IMO, but its presence is irrelevant. The now-pedantic point is that AMD had nothing to spin :) . The pun only works (or works better) if the company has something to spin. To me it would've been mor...

Only questioning why AMD would be on the hook to make excuses (spin) for a product another company sells/markets?

No RPM? I can't wait to see how AMD tries to spin this. AMD spin? Last I checked, all Kaby Lake parts were made and sold by Intel. If an Intel part is deemed to be "missing" a feature, I don't see how that's on AMD. It's up to Intel to know what they are buying. FWIW, the "Vega"...

Re: Vulnerabilities Discovered in AMD's Zen and Vega Security Processor, Including Backdoors in the AsMedia Chipset

Especially seeing as how, after a brief dip, AMD's stock is currently up 3.5% for the day. If this was orchestrated to drive AMD's stock down, doesn't look like it's working so well so far. It was a reverse-psychology play to make AMD stock go up when the obvious deception became obvious! Will the ...

As for AMD stock, I think this is a dumb idea if the people behind the attacks think they are going to make money on a short. 1) With the crypto crap spoiling the market, should I just wait? And while waiting, you can try to catch the few...

Yeah I was confused by that also. The whole point of adapting any book into a movie is that you've got good source material to work from, no? Maybe they thought the Silmarillion wasn't "mainstream" enough, even though there are characters like Elrond and Galadriel which carry over. The on...

Get the cheapest 1080 Ti you can find from a company that you feel comfortable with that has a decent cooler. Don't overthink it. You don't need over the top power delivery circuitry if you are running it at stock.

What sort of performance hit can I expect from an identically specced laptop (with something like a core i5/5 15W chip or Ryzen Raven Ridge) with only one (vs two) memory channels?
