Re: Exchanging Drive Sets in RAID Box

RAID 5 is unlikely to be faster in practice for editing unless you're limited in streaming bandwidth. That said - why not mount all 4 internally to avoid being limited by the QNAP? Hi Waco I have actually found that reads on RAID 5 are much faster than on a single drive, which is what I need for vi...

Exchanging Drive Sets in RAID Box

Hello Fellow Gerbils How is everyone doing? My question pertains to a QNAP TR-004 external RAID box. I own one of these and have populated it with 4x HGST 4TB drives in a raid 5 array that I use as a backup for my vast collection of media, what I'll refer to as my BU Set. It's a fabulous product, th...

Meerkt you were right. I went and bought a $25 10gbs cable and I'm getting steady 600MBs writes and 800MBs reads. There you go, I just learned something. Thank you!

ROG Strix Z390E Mobo Problems

Hello Fellow Gerbils After long years with a beloved Sandy (the best proc ever), I upgraded to the 9900k/ Z390e build in my sig. The assembly and transition were great, the performance boost has been sizable, and it's been very stable. However there are a couple of issues that I can't seem to resolv...

Re: Upgrade Questions; CPU's, Mobo Brands, Cooler

Thanks very much for the responses. I must admit that I'm being swayed to Ryzen. There is pretty much a critical consensus in its favour. This article from Puget suggests that Intel's Quicksync H264 acceleration makes it a bit more competitive. https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Premiere-Pro...

Upgrade Questions; CPU's, Mobo Brands, Cooler

Comrade Gerbils Time has come to replace my beloved Sandy-build, still running happily at 4.8 for eight years now, definitely the best PC I've had in twenty five years of builds. Alas, more cores beckon. Usages; Adobe CC (Lightroom and Premiere), gaming. I just bought a Nikon Z7 and those 45mp raw f...

Hi I did the same thing successfully on a Sandybridge setup. Here is my post; https://techreport.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=117085&p=1337622#p1337622 TLDR: it doesn't matter what OS you are using, it matters that your BIOS supports it. Mine did/does and that system is still humming along...

Windows 10 on Acer 1810t?

Hello Comrades After a long time on loan I have gotten back my old trusty Acer 1810t, a post-netbook, pre-ultrabook that had many fans in these parts aside from myself. It's still running like a little firecracker, thanks in part to an OCZ Vertex SSD that I swapped out the HDD for. It's running Wind...

Re: 10bit color on Dell P2715q

@airmantharp I have a Nikon D800 and viewing 14bit/Adobe RGB raw files in Lightroom or Photoshop in 10bit colour looks more 'lush' than 8bit colour. If you were standing at my desk and I toggled between 8bpc/10bpc I believe you'd agree. With a good camera it's an obvious upgrade.

Thanks Ryu. Sadly I didn't see that post when I was searching for this, or even when buying the monitor. I got 10bpc working on the U2711 and it looks gorgeous. I wonder if it's worth trying an EDID hack just to see what AFR deep color looks like.

Re: Boot from 950 Pro on P67 Mobo

H Exo Sorry to take so long to reply. You need to go into your mobo bios and find the section where you select the order of devices to boot from. I forget what the M2 device in PCIe slot appears as, it might be 'other PCI device'or some such but you need to select it as the primary boot device. Also...

I would love to see TR add some more workstation/content creation oriented benchmarks to their CPU and GPU testing routines. In particular, using Adobe Premiere CC to test CPU *AND* GPU performance would be very useful. A big Premiere Pro .proj file loaded with some RAW 4K or 6k footage from a Red m...

Re: OC'd Pentium AE + Asrock Z97 + GTX 760 = performing poorly

Comrades Thanks for your feedback.  I did manage to solve the problem. I had a used the Asrock mobo's custom O/C profiles to clock it to 4.2ghz. It ran fine, a little hot, but not above low 80's. When I turned off the custom O/C'ing and ran it at stock it immediately ran faster. I restarted the cust...

Thanks @JustAnEngineer for the reply. I booted up overwatch and played it. It ran fine, and was stable, though not fast. Is it possible that the six pin connectors are not supplying enough power? I got a hands on with the D500 at a local Nikon event. It's a beautiful camera, and if I wasn't so heavily invested in FX lenses, I'd probably buy one. Also, have you looked at the A7R II and some kind of Nikon F mount adapter? I think there is at least one adapter that allows AF with Nikon glass. A...

Comrades I have an Asus P67pro mobo with an i2600k riding in it. I need a new SSD and I'd like something PCIe fast.
