Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

Hydrocarbons all the way for me. I don't do stop and go for work driving, so hybrid parts are just along for the ride and are dead weight. Too bad VW killed diesel, as it would make perfect sense for my driving pattern. Does Chevy still make the Cruze Diesel? The urea keeps the NOx emissions down, ...

`round a Sun that is the source of all our power.. Heh. Our uranium comes from a supernova of an entirely different star, well before our star even existed. Yeah, half the actinides in our solar system were probably produced by two neutron stars colliding. https://techreport.com/forums/viewtopic.ph...

Am I the only one who starts singing "To Live And Die In LA" by Tupac in their head whenever reading this thread title? Last I knew, "To Live And Die In LA" was sung by Wang Chung, for the movie soundtrack. Did Tupac cover it, or write a different song by the same name? https://...

Re: Intel cancels their entire desktop CPU line-up

I love AMD as a company. I paid $400 for the K6-233 at its release as the fastest CPU for all of thirty days before the Pentium II was released in an early panic. Owned a 486DX4-120MHz before that, went through the Durons, Athlons, Athlon XPs, 64, 64 x 2. But I'd much rather see an eight-core Ryzen ...

Has someone mentioned removing the CMOS battery yet, metering it, and if necessary replacing it? A failing CMOS battery can sometimes cause quirky behavior, and a CR-2032 is cheap. After that, I'd ensure the BIOS is defaulted, the system is cleaned thoroughly to get rid of any dust, and I'd remove ...

I'm using Ubiquiti for my indoor AC wireless and have been extremely satisfied.

Asia Carerra is her adult film name. The Carerra was based off of a time when Tia Carrere was fairly popular (both Wayne's World and Kat in the PC Game "Critical Path", among other things). She was a gamer and PC enthusiast as well, thus her ties to ]H[ardOCP. So it's the same person? The...

This is why my gaming rig has a 1TB WD Black, so I'm not wasting space on my SSDs, but even moreso, why I have a storage array on my HP Proliant ML310e (a RAID-5 of 3TB Hitachi 7.2k NAS drives) If you want fast, get an SSD. Re: TR Gerbil's Choice Review I - we have a winner!

For large storage hardware RAID arrays are a mixed bag. The performance is generally worse than a good ZFS configuration *and* they aren't as good at keeping your bits intact. For a few TB with some speed, there's no reason not to go SSD these days. Small HDDs are absurdly expensive per bit. In sho...

I would have voted for Optane, but for a different reason. I've always wondered what the real world benefits of hybrid storage are, and what are the limitations. I mean, you could just get an SSD for cheap these days, which is what most of us do, but the idea of hybrid storage for your system drive...

Re: 16 COARZ.... Not announced by AMD

When a CPU shines in these over another, at the same clock speed (or if the winner is at a lower clock) it isn't just a matter of developers. It's who actually performs more instructions per clock. So it really isn't developer-only. Well, yeah. Some chips are faster than others, and you can't alway...

I think maximizing revenue at the beginning of the launch plays a big part also. Not sure what the breadth of the EPYC2 product launch will be, but regardless AMD will be selling working 8-core chiplets for much more in an EPYC2 package and either Ryzen3000 or TR3. In addition, EPYC2 TDP limits are...

Although I'd say that Netburst was a far less efficient architecture, so the analogy isn't near as valid. Lake could scale further IMO if Intel could have gotten their die process ducks in a row, but that killed them. The vulnerabilities in their SMT aren't helping either; it looks like there needs...
