Re: Rise of Skywalker spoilers

I didn't think it was that bad. Nothing will ever replace the original trilogy in my heart, but hey, we got to see some serious Jedi stuff from Rey, and finally, finally , a Jedi defeats the baddest of the Siths in a direct confrontation, something we only came close to with the Mace Windu vs Palpat...

Re: Something's different...

A 10 year old desktop (assuming the HDD and GPU are still original) will be pretty darned painful to use unless you've never known anything better. But with a SSD and GPU upgrade (and with the RAM maxed out), it'll still be perfectly fine for a wide range of tasks, assuming it was a mid- to high-en...

TR's home page has been my home page for roughly 15 years. That changed today.

I'll keep watching this thread, and the TR forums in general, for now. If things improve - and I hope they do - TR may be my home page again.

One more major problem. The "woman" scene, where all the females line up in the final fight. I mean, I recognize that some "girl power" is necessary for representation. But could it be... I dunno... less cheesy? I'm no feminist, so my eyes were rolling at the scene. But I ca...

Interesting read - thanks Cap'n.

Particularly interesting is the point they make about the Xbox line not being all that popular worldwide - and the accompanying dominance of Playstation 4 the last few years.

I am planning to try Bitdefender. Any experience? It's a pretty good product, but I found it to be aggressive - a bit too aggressive. After having used BitDefender for four years, last month I tired of the struggle and switched all of our household PCs and laptops to Trend Micro. The reason? Bitdef...

Not great, but not bad. Currently waiting for Vikings to return on The History Channel. And, of course, the final seaso...

Re-watched The Caine Mutiny recently. A slightly underrated movie, imho - features Humphrey Bogart, Fred MacMurray, Van Johnson, Jose Ferrer...even has Lee Marvin. It's probably underrated now at least partially because it is sometimes corny (which I love). Has anybody here read the book by Herman W...

Suckage. Toys R Us was the place to buy Nintendo cartridges - even bought Atari 2600 and Intellivision games there. Model ships and planes, too. I haven't set foot in one in more years than I can remember, though.

Re: STAR WARS TIME! - Spoiler Lock Lifted

Hysperspace travel does not create a destructive wake everywhere along its path because--despite the emptiness of space--damage from common travel would be a rampant, galaxy-wide problem. It's not just military ships out there. You'll have many, many more dedicated to space freight, all making hype...

Assume that any normalspace to hyperspace transition is not instantaneous and that the transition creates a wake of bent normalspace as the transition is made. In my mind, the wake is what did the damage to the First Order fleet and that the effect also means the destruction of the ship still in tr...

Re: STAR WARS TIME! - Spoiler Lock Lifted

Rogue One was phenomenal. If they make another "side" movie that good, I'll be happy. The good thing about Darth Vader is that he seems to be pretty easy to CGI with modern technology. As long as James Earl Jones' voice survives, Vader lives on. Of course, any big guy of approximately Dav...

The milking of the sea cow was intended to be repulsive. I get that. However, it struck me as awkward, forced, and out-of-place. It could easily / should have been left out altogether. The film would not have been lessened in the slightest.

Re: Why do USB connectors (almost) never fit well?

It does seem that, if the USB port is in a location where I can't see it clearly (e.g. back of a computer case), I may spend a minute flipping the male connector over and over several times trying to get it to insert correctly (no jokes, please). Of course, that could be attributable to my own perso...

Yummy. Des Moines. Nine 8-inch rifles with radar-directed fire, 330lb AP shells, and autoloaders, so each tube can fire 10 rounds/minute. Also fully-protected against 8" fire (US design policy was to armor against the guns carried on the ship). If it weren't for the manpower requirements, I'd ...

Rarely have I seen someone work so incredibly hard at effing up their own life. If you ever watched him play in college, he seemed like a bundle of nerves most of the time. Maybe that sort of high-intensity personality lends itself to drug and alcohol abuse, but all I can think of is "Stupid, b...

I think Rey and Kylo Ren will prove to be twins. Just because Han and Leia didn't mention a daughter doesn't make this impossible. At this point, Kylo Ren isn't even a wart on Darth Vader's ass. He's far too emotionally unstable, unlike his cold, calculating, and utterly ruthles...

Don't count out Dallas. Jerry Jones loves the guy, and wanted to take him last year instead of Zack Martin. He probably would have, too, if the entire rest of the organization (including his own sons) hadn't threatened to mutiny. Tony Romo is 35, and if Jones can get Johnny Football away from Clevel...

Or, do what my buddy says: he got a lifetime ban. As soon as he's dead, reinstate him and put him in the HoF then. But then Shoeless Joe should be there now. I agree with this. The one hope that Pete Rose has (for posthumous reinstatement) is that there seems to be no real evidence that he ever thr...
