Re: Windows 10 disable driver update.

Isn't this a problem unique to your particular PC, given that it's not a common problem for people with these cards?

Re: Make your exascale predictions now.

I see quite a lot of posts talking about the problems with failure rates of such massive systems. But why is that a problem? Surely the systems and apps are designed such that the failures are essentially invisible to the apps - or is that not true? Surely any such computers are built with easily-re...

Re: What's your current home audio system?

Obviously most people have fixed views on analogue versus digital, along with confirmation biases which preclude them from ever seeing "the other side". Anyway, here's some worthwhile reading on why rates/bit-depths above 44.1/16 are not necessary: http://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/nei...

Re: Ultimate Point-and-Shoot: Canon 6D and 40mm F/2.8 STM

The cheaper Nifty Fifty just wouldn't have cut it in the darker scenes, forcing you to manually focus with it's awful ring. I've not use the Canon 50mm prime, but why do you say that the 50/1.8 lens would have more trouble focussing than your 40/2.8 lens? Since SLRs focus with the aperture wide ope...

Re: Where do I go from here?

Hi Leor, it's really hard to answer your question without you telling us what games you want to play, at what graphical settings, and what FPS. Categorically, I can tell you that you don't need two or more GTX680s to drive your screens, depending of course on exactly what you're doing with them. I h...

Re: Where do I go from here?

I think u need TRI FIRE ti get the job done with 3 30 inch 4 mb panels. Completely incorrect, as evidenced by mine and others experience. It totally depends on what games he wants to play, and what graphics settings, and at what FPS. To make blanket statements that he needs to rush out and spend a ...

Re: Where do I go from here?

Hard to answer without knowing what games you want to play, at what level of graphics settings, and at what FPS. For example, I have 3 x Dell 2711 at 3x2560x1440, and have run successfully with 2xRadeon 5870 Eyefinity 6 cards, and later with 2 x GTX580s, mostly with racing sims such as iRacing, rFac...

Re: What's the next step for graphics?

TV sets don't need anti-aliasing to display images that are massively more realistic than almost any PC game, even at VGA-type resolutions. It's not resolution that's required, it's everything else.

Re: What's the next step for graphics?

According to the article we still need to quadruple resolution and have something on the order of 100x(?) more graphics power than we have today in order to approach reality. More resolution is probably the last thing needed to gain realism. Any picture on my TV looks realistic, and that's (roughly...

Re: Well, now THAT's disappointing lens behavior...

The Tamron's problem is not image quality. I got vivid proof of this at the aforementioned auto show. I was shooting the 7D at 1600 ISO, Aperture Priority, and mainly using the Tamron, a friend borrowed my 40D and shot at 1600 ISO, Aperture Priority, using mainly the EF 28mm f/1.8. My shots were un...

Re: has 16:10 lost?

I wondered from day 1 why 16:10 was ever standard at all. 16:9 makes way more sense. All of our content is 16:9 (or wider). Huh? There is a gigantic amount of TV/movie content at <16:9, and loads more at >16:9. There is has never been a hard standard aspect ratio for films, even though a lot of it ...

Re: Trying to run 8 megapixels on a 6970?

I run 11MP (3 x 2560x1440) on an Eyefinity 6 5870, so the 6970 should easily cope with the load, assuming you're OK to turn down some detail (depending on the game).

If he's serious about colour/calibration/etc, he should look at Eizo and NEC monitors built for that purpose, although they can be bloody expensive.
