Cheers all, found a Thinkpad i3-7100U 13" ultrabook on clearance with an SSD and the non-backlit, sculpted, concave keys with a good few mm of travel. Notebookcheck reviews confirm that Thinkpad's standard (non-backlit) keyboards are the best or among them Also, dear Apple lovers, I understand...

Here's hoping for 6 more (can't forget the ladies!) well-played, well-officiated ball games to bring the Madness to a close! Dear Zeus no, lets not. All three of the Final 4 games on the women's side were INSANE I actually turned off UConn/Notre Dame in regulation. Down 3, seconds left, and ND ball...

Re: Can a 2-way / 10" woofer produce great midrange?

So I did it. Saturday morning I left home at 0330, made a 400-mile round trip to get these babies, and I just have to say... My fears were totally unfounded. These are hands down the best speakers I've ever owned. Even for how exhausted I was, I stayed up until 0300 Sunday morning listening to song ...

Re: spending only $100 a month on food.

The same store that has the great produce market (and the sometimes clueless cashiers) also has an entire aisle of Indian stuff (there's a large Indian population in the area, so makes sense). Seems like half the aisle is dried legumes of various kinds. Next time I'll ask a stocker about the split ...

Re: Can a 2-way / 10" woofer produce great midrange?

This should help solidify the ongoing advice: the great majority of studio monitor speakers are 2-way designs. The woofer handles the midrange, and a tweeter for the highs. No doubt! But most of those seem to be endowed with 6.5 or 8-inch woofers. Most of the large-woofer 2-ways I ever see are PA s...

Re: Can a 2-way / 10" woofer produce great midrange?

A well-deigned 2-way system will have a woofer with a carefully controlled cone geometry and stiffness, such that higher frequencies cause only a smaller area (towards the center) of the cone to vibrate. This is how it is possible to get decent mid-range from a large driver -- by using progressivel...

So I have a chance to get some Klipsch KLF-10 speakers this coming weekend, if he hasn't sold them by then. I've always wanted a pair of vintage Klipsch speakers, since my best friend had some KG4's back when we were in high school (those are still in the family, I should add). I have visions in my ...

I also wonder if their "clearance" sales will be real, or the sham sales like what was used at Borders. Sham. For almost everything, other than literally the fixtures of the store, it's end-user merchandise in boxes that some reseller can dispose of for nominal prices via another channel....

If I were less lazy I would setup a local plex server and have an AppleTV or something point to that and that only. Then rip whatever content you want and put it on there. Might not be as cost advantageous, but that is the only foolproof method. For everything else you are relying on an algorythm. ...

Windows 10 is okay. Under the hood it's technologically superior to Win7. Nobody is going to deny that. Interface wise, I can't stand the look nor accessibility of it. Just like Windows 8, that's the main point of contention. MS keeps fixing what wasn't broken, and a lot of people who were used to t...
