Re: Do you like your job?

I absolutely love my job as an IT Admin with a small team at a large, publicly funded university (in Europe). I'm my own boss, I get to delegate the stuff I don't like to to, get paid very well, have five weeks of vacation, no overtime, have a great (USD 1'000'000) budget I get to manage and have a ...

It seems to be the case because my Epson Scanner that used to work with TWAIN in XP no longer works under Vista. I had to result to using Vuescan (not free, but well worth the money) which fortunately worked like a charm. I'm really looking forward to OS X 10.5 so I can put a complete stop to this V...

I used if for a while and it was OK and very reliable. I do wish they had a DNS server in Europe because my ISP's DNS server seems quicker. I guess it is because every DNS request goes to the US and I am in Switzerland. So if you are in the US, I would highly recommend it. Everywhere else, I would d...

Coolbits is enabled. It's just that the slider won't go to the right as far as I would like it.

I just tried powerstrip and that's working fine as I have the memory running at 825 mhz. I'm gonna give rivatuner a try as well and see which one I like more. Thanks for the replies.

Overclocking slider in nVidia control panel

I'm the very happy owner of an ASUS Extreme N7900GT (450/650 stock) that I'm using the 9.1.3.1 drivers with. For some reason I'm limited to a memory clock frequency of 800mhz in the nVidia control panel. I know my video card probably has a bit more overclocking headrom with the Zalman fan I have on ...

Check out http://forum.msi.com.tw/board.php?boardid=28 . There are more issues listed there that you can shake a stick at. So far I have suffered from the following issues. - Raid Bios crashes (that a first for me on any motherboard.....) - Can't install Windows on a 0+1 array regardless of drivers ...

unprotected wireless networks

I recently sat out on my deck with my laptop and I realized there were three unprotected wireless networks with default router passwords in my neighborhood which I could log on to. One of these networks had an XP box that was completely open with absolutely no passwords (meaning all partitions were ...

I'm actually not a big fan of my K8N even with the latest BIOS release. The initial BIOS was just crap and totally unstable. The RAID BIOS literally crashed on my when I tried to set up an array the first time. There is a lot of complaints out there about this board. I'm not saying don't get it, but...

Yeah, you can restrict address ranges. You can block all traffic via the preconfigured "lockdown" security profile as well. What I ended up doing is create my own custom profile for specific tasks. For example if I'm simply using my machine for web browsing I have a profile for that. If I'm using Sy...

I have a MSI K8N Neo Platinum and I use the hardware firewall. To answer your question, it does not provide program based security. There is a Firewall Wizard which will open the appropriate ports for things like ICQ/SSH, etc. without having to know the port numbers but it does not let you specify s...

I've had Gigabyte and MSI boards (9+) for the past four years and they are still working just fine. My Abit board bit the dust after less than a year so I'm not so sure whether I'll buy Abit again.

As far as stability goes, I've had problems with all of them besides the Abit. Go figure.

I'm getting a KT333 based mobo (Gigabyte GA-7VRXP) and I'm wondering if the Crucial ram will do 166/333mhz. I know it probably wouldn't run at cas 2, but will it work at cas 2.5? Would a memory heatspreader make a difference? Thanks.
