Re: New HTPC build in a Fractal Nano S - ultra-quiet

An SSD and another Win10 license are still being weighed against a future paycheck, I think. A 3TB Toshiba archival HDD will be transferred out of the existing HTPC system. Good budget SSD's are getting harder to find, with the NAND shortage and transitioning from MLC to 3D. Avoid all Ram-less drive...

Does CPU fan spin up??
If absolutely nothing-possibly front case power switch-could try screwdriver across pins(very carefully-at own risk)
EDIT
Does PSU fan spin up?(have had a faulty wall to PSU cable in the past)

Don't know if we're talking about the same thing, but CrystalDisk has a entry on my C400-
BD-Factory bad block count-Raw value-52

I've always assumed NAND has spares to replace bad blocks at manufacturing level.

What's the brand?

Sometimes it's not the actual reviews that count, the no of times I've come across comments like- Low ripple, but not as good as Seasonic. Voltage regulation is excellent, almost as good as Seasonic. Soldering quality is good, but it's no Seasonic. When you read a lot of reviews on different sites you s...

But as Crucial has trended downward some from the vaunted M500/M550 drives from several years ago, You don't need to go back that far-In 2015 we had the BX100 a really good budget drive and well priced. Sadly that was replaced with the BX200-A real lemon................................................

LDPC error correction seems to have solved the problems with planer TLC. I'd say "solved". With scare quotes. That's like saying you "solved" the problem of chunks of concrete coming off the facade of a decrepit old building by installing a safety net over the street below to ke...

As an aside, the SSD tangent in this thread prompted me to go do a little reading about LDPC. Interesting stuff. They're essentially applying tech that started out as a way to transmit data over noisy/lossy communication networks (e.g. cellular), and using it to reconstruct data from "lossy&qu...

Ugh... OK, so even if Samsung manages to get off my sh*t list, I'm avoiding the 750 series. What could go wrong, indeed! It's a product that is not aimed at "us"originally it was aimed at the white box market. It sits just above a huge bunch of low end drives you'd think twice before putt...

840 vanilla is 21nm TLC, 840 Pro is 21nm MLC 840 Evo is 19nm TLC so slightly finer meant problems showed up in half the time 750 Evo is 16nm TLC, what could go wrong? 840EVO was not Sammys last planer TLC-They still selling 750EVO............ Isn't that one based on previous-gen (larger cells) flash though? The leakage issues with TLC didn't become unmanageable until the last process shrink pushed things over the edge. That's why V-NAND/3D-NAND is such a big dea...

Interesting side note on LG: I didn't realize until recently that they are the same company that was known as Goldstar back in the '80s and '90s. Goldstar merged with Lucky plastics in 1958, hence the name "Lucky Goldstar" or LG. They sold transistor radios, televisions and VCRs for decad...

Seasonic S12-520
Antec HCG-520 (Seasonic)
Seasonic G360
There's a trend there-Would consider EVGA(Superflower Leadex gold)but the smallest local suppliers have is 650 Watt.

Briefly pressing the power button 30 seconds after power on usually does nothing. But I don't know, maybe this is the normal behavior. I have a tiny little Noctua cooler that is great for the size, but not something I can really OC on. I bought it for another project that never materialized.
