BATTERY LIFE

Don't know how appropriate this is,but wanted to share- Yesterday I had to call RAC motoring services, because I was stranded with a flat battery. Replaced battery with sealed/calcium for$180AUS. Now the good bit-The battery that came out(Panasonic original) was 2 months short of 10 years old. That's...

Re: spending only $100 a month on food.

Just in case you guys are thinking that I'm eating a rather bland diet, I did have an egg sandwich this morning for breakfast. Still needed a little salt... I'm getting a little concerned with this-add more salt-add more salt. Too much salt is bad for you-especially as you get older. Next time you ...

it bounces from 43c. It stays more along the lines of 56 to 58 on normal. I've just never seen temps that high when Im not doing anything. It bothers me. Seems the 1600x has a +20C offset- https://www.google.com.au/search?q=ryzen+1600x+temp+offset&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjHz6WetY7aAhULPrwKHfR6CugQ1...

Re: Ryzen 1600x-----Please Help

I just installed a Ryzen 1600x on a Gigabyte Gaming 5 Motherboard and I cannot get the temp on the CPU to go down below 43. I bounces from 43 to 56 at idle. It is really bugging me. I am also using a cooler master hyper 212 evo which helped my last CPU greatly, but this one isn't going down. Please...

Re: spending only $100 a month on food.

Well I also have some brown rice and lentils in my cupboard as well. I did splurge and brought a 32 oz jar of cashews however... lol dude! you just blew your budget up. That had to cost 15-20 bucks. Indeed I did, but the cashews will be a once in a while thing. The hard bit will be-making them last...

Well I just got back from grocery shopping at two stores. I went to Food Ruler for my main stuff, and then over to Shop n Save for 4 lbs of Split Peas and Pearled Barley(2 bags each). Total cost was $71.51, and that is for two weeks. Brought a dozen free range brown eggs too. Ruler Foods was out of...

Couple of tips- Only buy fruit and veg that is in season. Couple of my favourites-Brussel sprouts and mushrooms are generally over $10 Kg.I buy when around $6. Use your freezer. A Chilli-con-carne,made from 1Kg ground beef,2 cups dried beans a couple onions, some tomato and spices can easily be the b...

I used to read the TR System Guides to get info on the state of each industry, especially things like hard drives, where knowing the overall picture of reliability, price, size, etc. is important. That info ceased to exist with the new guide format, and there hasn't been a HDD review in quite some ...

This is the third failure of some sort out of Silverstone power supplies. So first off I have to say I don't think I'd trust them anymore. Another failed similar, no boot issue, just nothing. Another started having a rattling fan after about 2 years of useage. They just don't seem up to snuff in th...

Re: Why I'm Suspect of RAM Prices

Prices are based on Supply, Demand & BOM... This seems to be the primary driver. Chip production rates have been relatively stable for a while, be it simple erroneous forecasting or some sinister conspiracy to limit production, but demand is increasing from a mix of smartphones, Sandy/Ivy syste...

That said, I agree with you that HDD prices seemed to stay artificially high after the factories came back online. Probably took a little while to re-coup their losses from the floods. Then you have Seagate buying Samsung HD division and WD buying Hitachi HD division. More debt's for us(the custome...

It wasn't that long ago you could get 8GB of DDR3 for sub $30 on sale. Something is most certainly rotten in the state of Denmark China. This is one of those times where I'd love to see some more competition kick in and undercut the hell out of them. I guess the FTC and other foreign "protecti...

I wouldn't trust them for long-term unpowered data retention as far as I could throw them though. Isn't that the downside to NAND in general???? Yeah, but moreso with the 840 EVO. AFAIK it was the last die shrink of planar TLC before everyone went to 3D (and larger cells). I think 840 EVO pushed th...

SSDs are not exempt from the lottery effect. Just ask anyone who bought one of the dodgy OCZ drives, or a Samsung 840 EVO. It really is true about the lottery thing; my 840 EVOs are still working fine and see daily use. More seriously, pretty much every kind of drive is vulnerable to DOA. If you up...

The intel utility test now show max 105W TDP rather than 117 I saw before. I tri...
