Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

Back in the high school days we called skunked the extras that were stuffed under the seat and consequently froze. I don't recall the skunk aroma, but they were pretty much undrinkable.

Re: What to do with old PC?

Under clocking and under volting both the CPU and GPU will take a big bite out of power usage. Data shuffling is not a compute intensive workload. IIRC most NAS CPUs run around one GHz.

Yeah, I like to think of it as buying a new car a piece at a time plus sweat equity. Although I often find myself muttering, "I'm getting to old for this sh1t."

Too much death this week. First my last uncle on pi day, then an elder cousin in law on Thursday, and Chucky be good on Saturday. Damn.

Was much impressed with the Navy honor guard at my uncle's grave side rites. WWII

Currently have a basic top-load GE manual dial washer which was good for the last 16 year but now stalls out in the spin cycle. I'm liking that sexy non-digital SpeedQueen model with all metal, analog-sweetness. I have three kids and I'm helping the wife with laundry every frigging day now. Have tr...

This is Texas...I think I've met a vegan once? Maybe? Probably had to drive to Austin to find one (yikes, Amarillo to Austin is 1/2 of my drive to TRBBQ). Reminds me of my move from Phoenix, AZ to Fort Lauderdale, FL back in the fall of 1978. I was towing a heavily loaded five by eight Uhaul with e...

The points jump should be pretty much directly proportional to the increases in processing cores and clock speed. Congrats on your upgrade and your 100 million point milestone.

I hate surface-mount soldering. Only for family, or possibly large amounts of money.

It does take a delicate touch and determining which is the larger mass to heat first can be problematic. The right size iron tip is an absolute must and a halo magnifier is a big help.

Any idea if/when mere mortals will be prohibited from purchasing leaded solder in the US? I use leaded solder for all DIY electronics and repair/rework, since it is more durable and easier to work with. I figure the day is probably coming when you'll need a special permit to buy the stuff, and I sh...

Asus WL-520GC - 802.11g - four port plus wifi

Bought it years ago for ten bucks and free shipping. It's been running fine for two or three years. It's nominal 54Mbps is still 150 times faster than my wanna be internet. Maybe a different story when I finally get 15/5 fiber out here.

It looks like your driver change corrected the recent F@h Pascal driver issue which resulted in about 500 early crash work units giving you only tiny partial credit for each one. With only a few fully completed work units you jumped to number nine on team 2630's top 20 producers! The client projecti...
