You might also try reversing the speaker's power cord plug. Ungrounded power cords generally have a ribbed wire on one side which should generally be plugged into the longer slot.

I'd like to test drive a Dodge Demon. A factory warrantied car that can lift the front wheels at launch and cover 1320 feet in less than ten seconds would leave an ear to ear grin on my face for quite while.

I'd like to see your basis for the "people have died doing that." I'm not saying it is impossible to die poking around in a computer PSU that is disconnected from the AC mains. I'm just saying it's highly unlikely many, if any have ever died this way.

Earlier this morning I uploaded my second 207 point WU for Frankie, woohoo! 414 points sure isn't much to show for the better part of four days of folding and definitely not the tens of thousands of points per day I had been expecting from my GTX 550Ti (thanks again lhr!). As far as I know most power bricks have no surge protection. I've had good luck with 500 joule surge protected power strips from Walmart for less than ten dollars for a two pack.

Really enjoying The Orville on Fox. Kind of a blend of Star Trek and Firefly with a little Kurt Vonnegut tossed into the mix. Kudos to Seth MacFarlane!

Re: The Farthest -- Voyager in Space

A little while ago I stood up from my chair and staggered away from the TV with the distinct feeling that data was dripping out of my ears. The Farthest -- Voyager in Space

Wednesday night I watched and thoroughly enjoyed this new PBS documentary on the Voyager missions! My Zap2it TV listings say it will air tonight (Sunday morning) from two AM until four AM EDT (check your listings if interested). I plan to watch it again. The main doc runs a little over an hour and a...

Those of us who lived through Socket A will never forget. Those who didn't will never understand just how hard you had to press down on that screwdriver to get the clip to lock and the concomitant feeling of imminent disaster. The trick was to take some of the bend out of the mounting strap (they w...

My earliest electrical experiment involved a ceramic surface mount light socket, a ceramic surface mount switch, and an AC plug. I wired them all in parallel. With the switch off I plugged it into a wall socket and light came on. Humm ... I flipped the switch and all the lights in the room went out....

Under clocking and under volting both the CPU and GPU will take a big bite out of power usage. Data shuffling is not a compute intensive workload. IIRC most NAS CPUs run around one GHz.
