Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

The generation before mine used slide rules. I was pretty much right on the cusp of the switchover to calculators. One of my high school math teachers still had a giant (like 5 foot long) slide rule hanging in the front of the classroom for instructional purposes. In my EET classes at Purdue all bu...

Re: YALBT (Yet Another LED Bulb Thread)

Recently, I had my first LED bulb failure. A non-dimmable Walmart $2.44 60watt equivalent that ran continuously at 8.5watts for two years and three months upside down in a surface mount ceiling fixture on a three year warranty. I took it to the service desk in an original box with the receipt and th...

Re: Snowy Spring, Nor'Easter #4

During the "first night of spring and the second day of spring" we received three or four inches of snow. This morning there is still snow on the ground and about half an inch of ice in the porch water bowl, again. To me this qualifies as the Indiana fifth season, "Still Winter" ...

Re: Power precision screwdriver

Maybe try turning it a bit clockwise (tighter) to break the Locktite? As you seem to be approaching the point where you will need to drill the head off the screw. Although little bits of screw head doesn't sound like a good thing inside a laptop. Assuming the battery housing is plastic, a very small...

Re: LG 29" UltraWide IPS + Freesync = $180 Newegg

The rtings review says it's an 8bit panel, but newegg and LG confirm it's an 8bit by way of 6bit + FRC. A couple of years ago (out of curiosity) I bought a 24 inch 1080p LG ips with 6bit + FRC on sale for $110 IIRC. The colors were good, but just not perfect. When my cousin's monitor died I passed i...

Re: LG 29" UltraWide IPS + Freesync = $180 Newegg

I've been wanting one of these ever since the price came down near $300. But sadly this particular model uses a 6bit + FRC (pixel dithering) IPS panel and I want a true 8bit. Plus the chances of finding an RX580 4GB video card for $200 to take advantage of it's features in the near future seem prett...

You could contact the company and see if they have or could make you a firmware update to disable the "feature." It might just be an oops in the firmware coding.

You might also try reversing the speaker's power cord plug. Ungrounded power cords generally have a ribbed wire on one side which should generally be plugged into the longer slot.

I'd like to see your basis for the "people have died doing that." I'm not saying it is impossible to die poking around in a computer PSU that is disconnected from the AC mains. I'm just saying it's highly unlikely many, if any have ever died this way.

Really enjoying The Orville on Fox. Kind of a blend of Star Trek and Firefly with a little Kurt Vonnegut tossed into the mix. Kudos to Seth MacFarlane!
