Re: STAR WARS TIME!

Only slightly spoilery.

I was decidedly underwhelmed. Better than 7 because at least it’s not a copy cat of 5, but beyond that, meh. Fun action scenes. But so much of the story just doesn’t make sense.
I’d give it a 6/10.

Re: Fire HD 8 for 5 year old?

I looked at the leap frog thing but always felt that closed of a system would lead to having to buy just their stuff and the cost adding up. I figured this might be a good way to teach him how to take care of something of his own and to learn to earn things. We bought them both on Craigslist, and t...

Re: Fire HD 8 for 5 year old?

We thought long and hard about it and decided that we didn't want a full-fat tablet for the kids. They have a LeapPad which has some great truly-education games. I have yet to find any "educational" games for iOS, but I didn't look as closely at the Android/Fire marketplace. My wife and my...

And the nice thing about Plex for movie rips, is if you lose a percentage of them them, big whoop. Just re-rip them.

Without being too blunt, whm, you argument sounds like someone trying to defend the old style apple earbuds that are widely regarded as the worst main-band earphones ever made. Either your hearing is damaged or you've never heard better - and you have my sympathy in either case. The headphones that...

Have a new Monoprice Mini Delta 3D printer chugging away in the corner of the office now. Setup was simple, o...

Don't forget, optimization for an exactly known hardware configuration can get more performance out of the same hardware versus a 'have to fit every hardware possibility' that PC gaming offers.

I was very tempted to get the X last week when we bought the S. I've been rocking the 360 Elite since launch day (it was the first version that had HDMI back in April 2007). Paid $480 for it at the time. It has lasted me over 10 years, which is a great ROI. I couldn't quite justify the price differe...

Bestbuy probably survives on TV sales alone. We had 2 ComUSA's in town until they shuttered them, which was not that long ago. They even rebranded the one as TigerDirect after the buyout. The biggest "computer" store in town here sell used corporate systems for a great price (~$150 with 19...

OK I'm wondering why there is a sport's section on a geek site? After all true geeks and nerds have a strong disdain for people that like or play sports, especially football and wrestling. What? I would wager that most "geeks" like to watch sports, and quite a few of them play them also. ...

Never heard of that before. It does sound like an update hang, but delete and reinstalling should fix that, as the latest version will be installed. Let us know if you figure it out.

I’m a fan of Treesize. It works great for seeing directory sizes and it specifically makes note of permissions-related calculations equaling zero. You can elevate permissions to see all of it quite easily.

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

Sealing the end grain is a good idea also so that it dries uniformly and doesn't check or warp as much. Good call. I forgot to mention it. My In-laws had a half-dozen trees felled and took them to the mill. They got quite a bit of wood out of it, rough-sawn. It's been drying for a year or so and is...

Argh. Please use the full resolution. 1080p mean nothing anymore.

Most people don't refer to Ultrawide 2560x1080 as 1080p, so I don't see there being much of a confusion here.
