Re: 2018 Hurricane Season

Up here for The Weeknd doing cleanup. Tons of trees down and pretty much Everyone is out of power. Very little damage to homes though in this county. It is pretty miraculous. I saw dozen of trees that fell parallel to houses or carports or sheds and that are only 10 degrees away from causing massive...

I was meaning fast-tracking the decision making to ensure that it is on the top pile for review; cutting corners would be horrible.

Right now at least SpaceX is ready to launch their demo technically, they are waiting on paperwork sign-offs. I'm hoping this incident accelerates that and removes some red-tape.

Still no word from the homeland on how their local area survived. 100 acres of forest means lots of trees went down I'm sure. We're just hoping none were on the various barns/sheds. I-10 is shut down for 81 miles surrounding the area. We'll probably go up tomorrow to see what can be done.

Michael sure turned into a monster almost overnight. The track is within 60 miles of my in-laws house, so they are in the process of bugging out. This is the strongest storm to hit the panhandle in recorded history. No bueno Jose.

I'm no audiophile but when I've shopped for headphones or buds I've used Wirecutter to narrow down the choices. You don't give a price range so have a look through their round-ups -- their Best Earbuds Under $100 is a year old now (products come and go and change prices but the best then should sti...

You might want to put that scaling back up to 125% or something. I use 1080p @ 100% on a 15.6". That's just about right to me.

Video of a guy flying a plane at 450+ mph. Can it land? https://boingboing.net/2017/10/29/ever-seen-a-model-jet-fly-at-4.html It took me a couple minutes to adjust. At first my stomach didn't like this video. I thought for sure he was going to auger into the solar panel field. That'd be an expensiv...

Re: Anyone repair anything today?

Speaking of car repairs, I finished installing the new radio in my Wife's Corolla. The CD reading broke, so I went with ye' ole $25 BT-only head-unit. Went great once I bought the right bracket. Still need to return the wrong one that I had bought initially. I decided to solder the wires on the harn...

Welcome to TR. The only thing my xbox (360 and now xbox 1 S) has ever been plugged into is a projector. What is your sound-setup? That's probably the biggest question. I run it through a receiver, which decodes the audio and sends the video to the projector. I don't play any intensive games, so I ca...

Re: Android apps now run on Windows 10 - UWP RIP

Windows gives you the option to run it natively if the vendor provides it in the App Store. Or you can install it via an exe. Or you can mirror it from your android phone? Why are you complaining about having more options?

Re: Cable modem cycling, how to prove loss of uptime

In the past I've argued with IT about this type of thing (ours was massive latency versus outage, but the logic should still hold). What I ended up doing was setting a simple batch file to run a ping on an interval like once/minute) that would show a timestamp and the latency result. EDIT: I found m...

Re: Anyone repair anything today?

I usually just use red electrical tape (which most big box stores sell) or a red paint marker, and just color as much of the exposed white wire as I can so it's obvious to the next poor sap working in the box (which is likely to be me again). Thanks. I'll do that. I need to go back and replace the ...
