Re: iPhone Pool Test scanner app?

I would be a user of that. Being color-blind, I can't read those worth crap. PS, the Clorox Pool app kinda does that already. It takes a picture for, reads the color, and logs the results so you can look over time. Just saying there might be some competition. I stopped using it...I think because I f...

Re: Space Thread

I keep hoping they'll bring it to the East Coast so I can see it. No luck so far though. The next launch is on my birthday! Unfortunately it is as ~2am (+/- 3 hours) and I'll have just gotten back from Europe 6 hours prior, so it'll be rough. We'll see. I love night launches. They go from dark to li...

That would be a really good idea. I'll keep my eye on those. I also need to find a proper clamp multimeter for measure AC current.

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

I finally got around to labeling all of hte 240v circuits on the breaker box. It's only been 2 years since I replaced the box. The hot water heater was the pain, since there is no indicator lamp whether the circuit is on or not. I ended up having to take off the cover and use a multimeter to test th...

Re: What shows are you recently watching?

My wife and I were in the test audience for Reverie's concept awhile back. The idea was pretty clever, but we haven't watched any of the episodes to see what they did with it. Both of us were on the fence with the good potential but pessimistic whether they would take the psychology of it and run wi...

I would take M.2 for the form factor, but not worry too much about NVMe. The speed difference is so minimal.

Re: Air conditioning: Dual-zone mini split vs two portable units

Also, I use my basement as a "cold-bank" in the summer. Setting the thermostat to "circulate" sucks cold air from the basement and pumps it upstairs to cool the house without having to run the compressor nearly as often. That is a clever idea. Not applicable in Florida, but pret...

Re: PC Protection-Antivirus/Malware

I just use the built in Defender (or whatever that is called now in win10) between hat and your pc behind a firewall, you should be fine. Just practice good internet browsing habits and a good backup system and you are good to go.

Re: Vega 64 or GTX 1080 (not TI)?

Honestly, I'm less concerned about the few hundred dollars GSync premium than I am about how few GSync monitors hit the market. I actually view that as a good thing. That keeps the quality high. It seems to me the specs are rigid enough that they are rejecting the low-end monitors that AMD is happy...

Even though Intel's are much better, the ARK allows me to forgive alot of sins.

PS, whatever happened to T-R's old decoder ring for CPU's/GPU's?

Re: Vega 64 or GTX 1080 (not TI)?

WHY WON'T NVIDIA DO THE OBVIOUS THING THEY NEED TO DO?! This is maddening but won't change until the market punishes Nvidia. They should just call VESA VRR "GSync Lite" to mollify GSync monitor manufacturing partners and flog the incremental difference as a huge boon for "GSync Plus&...

I like the Florida one for Ceviche. I loved that when i lived in Peru. Especially Octopus. I haven't found the US-made one's to be quite as good. Probably different food safety laws with "raw" meat.

Re: What are you drinking RIGHT NOW?

Mango Smirnoff. Yummy :-D Wha? That sounds interesting. It was delicious. They were on sale at Publix for $6 for the 6-pack. I like almost all of the Smirnoff flavors, but this definitely threaded the line nicely with the Mango flavor not being overpowering (which is easy). Then again, I used to ea...

Re: Active Noise Cancelling headsets

It's hard to look at investing $100+ for something that realistically I'm only likely to use maybe 6-10 times/year. Fair enough. But if you get something that sucks, you'll probably use it once or twice, then toss it in a drawer never to be used again. Maybe I need to just stick with the passive no...

I’m not an audiophile when it comes to music for sure. It’s only even on as background, which the phone speakers work perfectly fine for.

Re: Active Noise Cancelling headsets

Just to put it in perspective, I don't own any headphones at all other than my iPhone headset and I've used that maybe twice in the last year. 90% of my music is listened to over the phone's speakers and all my gaming is done using the 7.1 in the theater room. It's hard to look at investing $100+ fo...

Confirmation from Avantree customer Support that the ANC does work in wired mode. Nothing from Cowin yet. I'm leaning that way for $70, but still not really decided.

Re: Webb delayed again

Once a project gets in the Billions, the budget needs to be looked at much finer detail. Too big, too fast. Think of how many more Kepler or TESS satellites they could launch for the same price. As for serviceability, we no longer have the ability to service things in space without the Shuttle Orbi...

Re: Active Noise Cancelling headsets

I enjoyed the PC150's I had from Sennheiser. I'll give hte PXC's a look. I'm not generally as much a fan for on-ear for extended duration, but the HD 4.50's look like a good deal. I see used ones for $90 which is near my pricepoint. I did confirm that the 4.50's at least work with the noise-cancelli...
