Re: The iPhone got forked!

I would love more RAM in the iPhone. I feel like iOS11 is much more rigid on killing apps such that they require full reload than iOS10 did, presumably for RAM reasons. This is on the iPhone7+, the flagship model up until 8 weeks ago.

Re: Quite possibly the greatest car ever

I can't get into any of the new american muscle cars. They've got crazy high HP and I'm sure they're a blast, but they're also rather oaf'ish by today's standards. They don't have the character of the classics, and high horsepower alone just doesn't impress me these days. It also seems like america...

Re: Ergonomic "gaming" keyboard. Does it exist?

The combination of ergonomic keyboards with mechanical switches seems like a niche just ripe for exploitation. No idea why nobody's doing this, other than I'm just flat-out wrong. I'm been asking the same question here on TR for months/years. I love my Natural 4000 and would pay decent money for th...

Re: Anyone still own a Harmony Link? It dies in March

I still have a Harmony 800 (or 880, i don't remember) that is getting long in the tooth. I'm been eyeing the hub, as there doesn't appear to be anything else on the market that does that under $1000. Are ya'll aware of any alternatives?

Re: End of an E®A

The Sears Black Friday flyer has all the prices in "Weekly payments". Who in their right mind would finance something from a company that is likely to go out of business soon. Then again, maybe you wouldn't have to pay off the balance if they go bankrupt?

Re: iOS or my car?

For use without a car, that is based on whether the mute switch is flipped. When on mute/vibrate, it won't read it back, but when on regular volume it will.

Re: Anyone repair anything today?

That reminds me that I need to actually install the exhaust fans. Our house is old enough to have been built before that code was in-place. I ordered the stuff off Amazon about 6 months ago but never installed them in either bathroom. Now the weather is cool enough that I can go in the attic without...

Re: Chuckula's prognostication skills are failing him

You must have started using Intel's first iGPUs that was on the CPU package back then because only people who used the chipset iGPUs were the ones who brought El Cheapo "Walmart" computers. Not sure I understand this comment. I've been using integrated graphics since before the turn of th...

Re: Chuckula's prognostication skills are failing him

Intel's iGPUs were historically aimed at business laptops. They filled that role admirably, and at low cost. Until Microsoft decided to switch to GPU composition in the window manager and that arrangement fell apart in a hilarious fireball. I don't remember that particular fireball. I don't think I...

In my very limited experience, straight C is used primarily when interfacing directly with hardware. Something like an 8 -bit microprocessor.

What's the CPU usage? Cheap one's often rely on the CPU for calculations which can slow it down too.

For example, take the exact same problem and code a solution in multiple languages. Like JBI's example of the knock-knock generator. Make one in perl, python, c++, java, heck maybe in javascript.

At home, we just run it through the home theater system and crank it up to hear all over the house :D

Re: Econo box with less gaming focus

Wait for Raven Ridge? Wouldn't a Kaby Lake Pentium be cheaper? Of course the motherboards are really expensive, but you could compensate by buying super-slow RAM, since Intel CPUs don't really care about memory latency. Not cheaper enough to cover a discreet GPU. I'm banking on the Ryzen APU to at ...
