Re: Something's different...

This seems like an exciting time for a system guide update. We’ve got a new GPU architecture and a new desktop CPU architecture with PCIe 4 from AMD, a new fabrication process node from TSMC, generous price cuts from Intel and falling RAM prices. Next month will bring new workstation CPUs from AMD ...

...which is a big part of the reason why going back to precious metals would be easier in that case. Heh. I just like the idea of the "high-tech" "internet of money" being useful for when we've reverted to something less than a proto-state. You wouldn't know "high-tech"...

Re: Cinebench R20 is out. Officially banned from AMD demos

Amusingly (based on the thread title), or perhaps not, my Ryzen 5 2400G system is faster than the entry level 2017 MacBook Pro 15" with the Core i7-7700HQ. The AMD system scored 1740 and the MacBook rang in at 1685. I expected it to be kind of close but I figured the Mac would win. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ W...

How are CPU temps? With the AIO in the front (blowing hot, restricted air into the case), how are GPU temps? When I was planning the build I looked for info on that very subject. It appeared to me that the best option was to have the CPU cooler mounted at the front of the case . I reserve the right...

Is the rear fan an intake or exhaust? If it's an exhaust, don't you have slightly negative pressure (when accounting for exhaust from the PSU & slight from the GPU)? Rear and top are exhaust so you are probably right. :) So... ...there is an unsightly internal USB cable visible in the photo. I ...

Re: CPU vs GPU Bottlenecks

I've definitely held onto a CPU long enough for it to become a bottleneck. I kept my OC'ed 3770K system for 5 years. That rig started with a GTX 580 SC. I then upgraded to dual GTX 770 SC in SLI and then finally to a GTX 1080 FE. I knew the GTX 1080 FE was restrained by the CPU in many games but the...

Re: CPU vs GPU Bottlenecks

It was only a matter of time, since the consoles use 8-core AMD Jaguar CPUs. That is a super old/weak architecture now. PC gaming took multithreaded gaming and ran with it ages ago. I would expect the next generation of gaming consoles to usher in a new CPU-bound revolution. That sounds like a terr...

Re: CPU vs GPU Bottlenecks

My point is that it really seems to me that the #1 priority should be to minimize the CPU bottleneck, and then get the fastest GPU you can afford with the rest. And you believe the i7-5775c is the best way to "minimize the CPU bottleneck" for a 2080 Ti FE driving a 3440x1440 120Hz G-SYNC ...
