Re: CPU vs GPU Bottlenecks

I've definitely held onto a CPU long enough for it to become a bottleneck. I kept my OC'ed 3770K system for 5 years. That rig started with a GTX 580 SC. I then upgraded to dual GTX 770 SC in SLI and then finally to a GTX 1080 FE. I knew the GTX 1080 FE was restrained by the CPU in many games but the...

Re: CPU vs GPU Bottlenecks

It was only a matter of time, since the consoles use 8-core AMD Jaguar CPUs. That is a super old/weak architecture now. PC gaming took multithreaded gaming and ran with it ages ago. I would expect the next generation of gaming consoles to usher in a new CPU-bound revolution. That sounds like a terr...

Re: CPU vs GPU Bottlenecks

My point is that it really seems to me that the #1 priority should be to minimize the CPU bottleneck, and then get the fastest GPU you can afford with the rest. And you believe the i7-5775c is the best way to "minimize the CPU bottleneck" for a 2080 Ti FE driving a 3440x1440 120Hz G-SYNC ...

Sorry to be obtuse but I am confused. Plex server and NAS? What does the server boot?

FreeNAS is the boot OS. There is a Plex (SMB) plugin.

Interesting.

Re: Synology Nas advice

Holy crap! Me want: https://www.qnap.com/en/product/tvs-672xt At US$1500 (B&H quote), it looks like building your own might be more economical? Far more. My whole build cost less than that (minus storage) and it can handle 24 drives and a hell of a lot more functionality. That's always the rub ...

SpaceX booster had an issue on approach- lands in sea

SpaceX boosters had an issue on approach- lands in sea Interesting: “#Falcon9s always target just offshore for exactly the reason we saw today. The last part of the landing burn adjusts their landing point to the ground pads. This worked exactly as designed. Ditch if they can’t make it. Protect the ...

Not an issue for regular customers and majority of gamers. We have been here before, you and I. I don't talk on behalf of, nor care about, regular customers and the majority of gamers. In the age of super fast NVMe drives gigabit ethernet is showing its age. I mean 100 MBs? Really? It is just terrible. I've been hankering for 10 gigabit ethernet for so long that I almost forgot about it. Fortunately, it does appear that 10 gigabit ethernet is finally appearing on high end consumer...
