Re: Your Impressions of Curved Monitors

VA displays that I have used have been brutally bad. I have one out of four) IPS display with bad bleed but it is rare to see it during normal usage. I'll replace it with another IPS display at some point. If it came down to an IPS with bad bleed or a VA display I'd take the IPS display in a heartb...

Re: Your Impressions of Curved Monitors

Oh and funny story about going into Fry's. While I was looking and analyzing the monitors a sales associate came up to me to "assist". He spouted off selling point fluff that had no pertinence to which monitor someone should buy. When I started referring to IPS glow, color shift, and even ...

Re: Your Impressions of Curved Monitors

I use a curved 21:9 Samsung monitor, SE790C, VA panel with 3440 x 1440 resolution. All LCDs have some amount of color and contrast shift as the angle to your eyes changes. I've observed especially on 21:9 monitors that the curve does indeed help to keep the screen more uniform. When I was shopping f...

Re: AMD looking more future proof than nvidia

Total War: Warhammer has consistently been one of the more played games on Steam's statistics, http://steamcharts.com/top, even more than Witcher 3 last time I checked, but people keep dismissing it as a niche DX12 game. Its getting a bit ridiculous that everyone immediately mentions AotS, RotR and...

Re: AMD looking more future proof than nvidia

Yeah that's the thing. There are still very few games that we can draw any really holistic conclusions from. Doom is perhaps the only popular game. RotR had tech issues of its own and does anyone even play the new GoW (and it had issues too)? No one seems to play AotS (only benchmark it) and its be...

Re: Nvidia Pascal the holy trifecta?

I'm not sure where you get dismissing Square Enix and Microsoft games as nobody studios that don't show market trends. And as every major publisher has a DX12 game in the works I find it hard to ignore, but please note a major publisher that is not in current development of a DX12 title. You make o...

Re: Nvidia Pascal the holy trifecta?

There are 6 games currently playable with DX12 and some of those by large developers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_12_support That has both RTS and FPS titles so its not limited currently to the AOS's of the world. Sure...but per your link the list is pretty sparse. Squi...

Re: Nvidia Pascal the holy trifecta?

DX12 testing is more or less a red herring. We have a game with a very limited market (warhammer) and a game that basically amounts to a tech demo. I can't wait to see what's in store as the Battlefields and so on take up the mantle, but that's not today. There are 6 games currently playable with D...

Re: Nvidia Pascal the holy trifecta?

Since when is pointing out a red herring indicative of 'blind devotion'? Someone's jimmies got rustled. I'll take DX12 seriously when developers take it seriously; for now, we see only evidence that they're by and large not, and that seems to correlate with Nvidia making sure they support DX12 whil...

Re: Nvidia Pascal the holy trifecta?

the point is it loses compared to Radeon in percent performance ahead. Which doesn't matter now, but may later. Also what low settings? At 1080p for some really weird reason. Like, REALLY WEIRD, it drops below a 980/390 when considering minimum frame rate. Although given the minimum is quite high a...

Re: Nvidia Pascal the holy trifecta?

1080 lead shrinks yet again when switching to DX12, and even gets beaten by last gen GPUs on some of the settings. How many DX12 titles have to come out until Nvidia starts to take it seriously? Doesn't make the 1080 look any more future proof than someone owning a 980ti or Fury X. Will DX12 continu...

Re: What if Intel tried to make a serious graphics card?

Oh, another thing: That "failed" Skull Canyon IGP in the 45-watt power envelope is often 50% or subtantially more than 50% faster than the top-end Kaveri in graphics. That top-end Kaveri with a massively higher power envelope, not to mention that comparing the CPU side is almost not even ...

LOL that's a quote from AnandTech, my predictions are on previous pages in this thread. I guess I should have linked it. But yeah, that's why I only highlighted the 980 and 980 Ti parts from that quote. I'm not sure which frame stutters you're talking about. I see exactly one large spike in one pla...

Re: Nvidia Pascal the holy trifecta?

As the first high-end card of this generation to launch, NVIDIA gets to set the pace for the market. At the risk of being redundant the GTX 1080 is now the fastest single-GPU card on the market, and even at 4K it wins at every single gaming benchmark, typically by a good margin. In practice we’re l...

Re: Nvidia Pascal the holy trifecta?

I agree, I'll await in anticipation as the reviews come out looking at how the memory choice might effect the performance of the chip. Since the 1070 uses 8GB/s gddr5 and the 1080 uses 10GB/s gddr5X correlations might be drawn to how the Pascal architecture is effected by memory speed and bandwidth...

Re: Nvidia Pascal the holy trifecta?

Why take a third parties statement over the manufacturing company itself? Anandtech has run several articles detailing GDDR5x and the current situation at the various fabs, but apparently I gave them too much credit. Thanks for the link, I didn't know that info was available! In fact with the GDDR5...

Re: Nvidia Pascal the holy trifecta?

What's up with those memory speeds... GDDR5X at 10Gbps? Micron actually rates its modules for 11Gbps, and all indications were (by the Anandtech articles over the last year) that they can already reach up to 14Gbps. So is it a Pascal memory controller limitation, or is NVIDIA buying GDDR5X on the c...

So if you did buy while having sight, do you think Pascal having less memory bandwidth than the 980ti would potentially hurt its performance?

Yes. I'll take whatever I can fracking get that meets my requirements. Hence my inquiry into what your requirements are, but stating a yet to be released product, i.e. an EVGA 1080ti, doesn't give much clarification on that. Would you buy a 490X if it met your specifications? Is there a product alr...

Re: Nvidia Pascal the holy trifecta?

So what is everyone's thoughts? Will the Pascal GPUs suffer a significant performance hit if they have less memory bandwidth than products like the 980ti? Is Nvidia going with the slowest GDDR5X because Pascal must release early and its the only thing available even though it'll still have a perfor...

So was reading http://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1080-1070-pascal-teaser/ , I know its WCCFTECH so take it with a grain of salt, but it had some intriguing information. The question that comes to mind is will the first Pascal chips suffer until faster memory comes out. I first didn't think Nvid...

Re: AMD polaris positioning controversy

As I see it, at the begining of this generation, nVidia and AMD will split the market. Pascal will occupy high-end market, some $300-350+. AMD will not really have any response for that. Polaris will occupy <$250 market with Polaris 10 and 11. While nVidia might have answer there, they will not wan...

Re: AMD polaris positioning controversy

If AMD can pull off a truly adaptive interposer filled with modular components, it'll be far more important than HBM alone. They could quickly design the exact specifications for a given market without having to reinvent the wheel every time. Fiji could have been an initial proof of concept with Nav...

Now its Q3/Q4 of 2016 and slipping into 2017 hurray........ Er it's still Q2 till June end... Oh are you ar...
