Re: The joys of Fiber Internet

I had a intermittent problem with our FTTH for the first few months, where uploading certain files didn't work because they'd come out jumbled on the other end. I could open a text file over FTP, save/upload it and it'd be immediately jumbled with the lines of text switched around in the file. It wo...

Are we talking a 2017/2018 i5 six core or a Phenom II six core? There is a big difference. No, a 2012 (or is that 2011) Intel 3930 Sandybridge-E cpu. encoding performance per thread has increased substantially since then: https://techreport.com/r.x/2017_10_03_Intel_s_Core_i7_8700K_CPU_reviewed/hand...

I'm kind of lost because the Blockchain (burden) is a feature, not a bug. BitCoin wasn't intended (and can't be) for small quick payments, any more than you'd use precious metals for small quick payments. the title of the Bitcoin whitepaper is literally "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash...

What, you mean AMD might design their product line around what makes the most money for AMD share-holders? What a bizarro-world idea.... well betting on crypto is a rather short-term bet, if their gaming graphics card market share drops so low as to become irrelevant and their crypto mining revenue...

crypto currencies are complex beasts and there's no telling yet how much they should be worth. Maybe the collective value of it all is 0, maybe it's 100 billion USD. How much they're worth to you is something that you can either discover for yourself right now, or you can forget about them and wait ...

I've used my Sennheiser HD-25's on planes before, they isolate very well but the drone of the engines is still present. Why would RAM amount depend on CPU choice? Shouldn't this just be "How much RAM would you want if you were building a system today?" because people buying more capable CPUs probably want to do more demanding stuff with them, which is exactly how AMD advertised Ryzen vs Skylake and why the...
