Re: Headphones on a Plane

I've used my Sennheiser HD-25's on planes before, they isolate very well but the drone of the engines is still present. But isolation is different from active noise cancelling, and as far as I know air travel is where active noise cancelling works best. You can forget about very high fidelity with t...

Re: Poll: Ryzen RAM amounts

Why would RAM amount depend on CPU choice? Shouldn't this just be "How much RAM would you want if you were building a system today?" because people buying more capable CPUs probably want to do more demanding stuff with them, which is exactly how AMD advertised Ryzen vs Skylake and why the...

Re: Poll: Ryzen RAM amounts

I've had 16GB in my i5-2500K system for more than 5 years now. For my purposes, 16GB would actually still be enough at the moment, as I'm not much of a content creator. That said, I'd definitely go for 32GB in any new system I'd buy for myself

Re: Is Linux getting easier to use then Windows?

So what do my fellow Linux users think? I think you're delusional if you're serious. It's an awesome platform for a great many things, but if Joe Schmoe tries to use linux he'll run into an issue sooner or later that he won't be able to fix, far sooner than with Windows 10. I'm not talking about in...

Re: Intel is up to their dirty tricks.. as usual..

It's in Intel's best interest to keep AMD in the state it was the last decade: surviving but not competing. So far, when Intel had to compete with AMD they did that with a plethora of dirty anti-competitive tricks, a few of which they got a slap on the fingers for. We could assume that Intel has wiz...

remember, if running new cable isn't going to work out for you, you can still get Ethernet over Coax / MOCA adapters and get wired ethernet by using your existing coax cables if you have them. Cat 6A is definitely better, no doubt, but any kind of wired ethernet is going to be more stable than wirel...

Re: Kaby Lake 7700K vs Sandy Bridge 2600K @[H]

Further, a 2600k with fast RAM wasn't the common configuration at the time: that was a 2500k and DDR3-1600, yeah, at the time faster RAM just wasn't that ubiquitous and DDR3-1600 was widely deemed "good enough" anyway. I guess much of it has to do with the integrated memory controller tha...

I have not decided on a Kaby or Ryzen build in Jan, but if Kaby, I will begrudgingly remove the lid and re-TIM it, cause this is who I have become lol (gotta go fast!) to get back on topic, I think I'll probably end up doing that myself as well, if Ryzen is not competitive. Re: Bottle-necking my aging beast

I don't really understand the report of an overclocked sandy bridge bottlenecking BF1 hard, because when I played the demo it was obvious that at ~60 fps, my GPU was the bottleneck. But then again it seems the demo ran *better* for many people than the released game (which I don't have) regardless, ...

Never really figured out why anyone would go for a retail key over an OEM key. Re: Question about whether it would even be worth upgrading the video card in my current system

The cpu and hd 7950 are at standard clocks.  While I could overclock them, like I said, I spend at least 75% of my time running multiple VMs in VMware Workstation, and it's more the amount of h/w threads and memory I can devote to each one, than raw speed. A lot of the VMs are Ubuntu 14.04.4 server...
