Re: Anyone see the new Judge Dread movie??

I just watched the remake of Judge Dread the other day. I have to say i was impressed it has spectacular effects and was very entertained. All i can say is I hated the original Dread movie......it was so corny and BoBo. But this remake is pretty dang neat. I suggest if you like action movies to giv...

Re: Upgrading HD 5750...

Are you sure there isn't something wrong with your Arkham City settings? Seems odd that a 5750 would only get 12-13 FPS. It's not hugely less powerful than the 7770. The Tech Report review of the 7770 shows an overclocked 5770 reaching 50 FPS at 1920x1080: http://techreport.com/articles.x/22473/4 No...

Well, you just get a Steam code from Amazon apparently, so it's exactly the same. Haven't tried it myself though.

Re: Affordable Good PC Sniper Game Please

I just played the demo for sniper elite v2 and I liked it but just not enough to fork over $50 when it will probably sell for $30 next month. Can any of you guys recommend a good sniper game that is already discounted? It's $15 on the Amazon.com download store at the moment. Or you could always get...

Re: Annoying Navigation Pane Behavior - - anyone?

Yeah, this has bugged me since I started using Windows 7. Had Vista on a work machine long ago, can't remember if it happened there too. I'm not holding out much hope for a fix, though I'm surprised something so obvious and hopefully easily fixable got through the beta process.

What happens if you just disable CMSS? I thought that Creative's drivers default to duplicating stereo sources to the rear out if a surround setup was selected anyway. They certainly do on my Audigy 1 if CMSS is disabled.

Have you patched it? There was a problem with Audigies in the initial release if hardware sound was on, but IIRC that affected speech rather than music.

I agree there's not been much change in tech for a while, but there are still new products to review. It's helpful to understand what exactly the differences are between the various types, and given how thorough most graphics card reviews are these days it would be nice to see something similar for ...

In my (limited) experience no-one really cares about the Microsoft certification stuff. Not having a degree in CS isn't a problem, knowing "a bit" of C++ might be. What are you now if you're contemplating becoming a developer? What field are you intending to specialise in? Obviously, having some cer...

I refuse to update my graphics drivers until ATI figures out a way to do it without going into 800X600 mode. I would really be interested in seeing someone start with a functional programming langauge as their first language. That is just the mad scientist in me wanting to see what happens... On the other hand, it would certainly provide a different perspective when that person gets around to doing someth...

What do you mean by "VGA standard settings"? For ATI, you mean the slider on the 3D tab? If you've got that on High or Optimal Quality at the moment then you're forcing on high levels of AA and AF anyway, which will severely impact your frame rate in some games. Balanced is the best option for, well...

If you believe the rumours there could have been some pressure from Intel, at least prior to their outstanding volteface on the usefulness of 64-bit CPUs. Or maybe they wanted to make sure all the hardware manufacturers had reasonable drivers ready before shipping.

OpenGL is not used by many commercial games, almost all use Direct3D instead. However they do pretty much the same thing, it's a question of API choice. OpenGL has progressed rather slowly in the past, with new features being added by individual implementors independently. Every now and then the con...

What happened to sound card reviews?

Even this site has very few. I know there's not much competition in the market, but Creative keep releasing new variants and reviews would help to give people an idea of what they're buying. Even when cards are reviewed, the info is often not useful or incomplete. Frame rates in games are very rarel...

Does this count for the Live 24-bit though? Judging by its feature set (7.1, 24-bit/96 KHz, EAX 3.0, 100 dB SNR), it looks more like a rebadged Audigy variant than any of the original Live cards... any tech reviews of it?
