Re: VLC becomes one of first ( (non UWP?) ARM64 Windows apps

Good to see. For Windows 10 on ARM to be useful more devs have to do this. VLC has been cross-platform since time immemorial, and it's explicit purpose is to run anywhere and play anything. That's not really most devs. I'm not sure what the significance of this is. This is the follow-through of the...

Re: 3rd party HP LaserJet toner recommendation

those printers consistently puked and gagged when given third-party cartridges. That's the fear if we go cheap and get them instead of throwing like 6x the money at the problem. now we use Xerox multi-function copiers for all of our printing. Unfortunately the printer was bought only like 2-3 years...

3rd party HP LaserJet toner recommendation

If it were my own printer I would be buying them in a heartbeat, but the situation here is a non-profit. The users are not that sophisticated nor I cannot spend that much time supporting them in case something breaks. The printer in question here is the LaserJet Pro MFP M425dn . The HP-branded high ...

Re: Zen gave 3 and 4 a miss and went straight to 5

So far, we only knew about Zen 2 and Zen 3, both 7nm architectures. To me it is just the usual skipping of 4, not skipping both 3 and 4. Am I reading the subject wrong? These things take like 3-5 years to develop. So isn't this just business as usual? I'm really krogothed on this so-called "ne...

I'm wondering about IDE/text editor experiences Visual Studio: Windows/Mac, most comprehensive, but perhaps a bit bloated if you use only like 5% of the functionality. Visual Studio Code: all OS, the new fling if you are not satisfied with whatever text editor that you like. Any good old text edito...

Re: PC can see others but cannot be seen from others

I rebooted the router and updated the firmware. But that resulted in that now each pc sees only one of the three pcs(not the main unit mentioned above), which means one of them see none except itself. Is this the only problem? But \\pc1, \\pc2, and \\pc3 works? You seem to be describing how workgro...

Re: PC can see others but cannot be seen from others

Definitely check if File and Printer Sharing is enabled, but IIRC it should be enabled by default. I suggest also checking if the network on the Win10 box is classified as "Public" because the default Windows Firewall setting is to not let File and Printer Sharing traffic to go through.

Re: Why I'm Suspect of RAM Prices

To be fair here, when you're dealing with a high-volume commodity even a small fluctuation in supply can cause massive price swings. Look at the price of things like gasoline and eggs in the US, for example. (Well in the lower 48, anyway... maybe up in Alaska they're just always expensive.) A bit o...

Also, I noticed that they default Windows 10 WHQL Support to Disabled , and Boot Mode Select to LEGACY+UEFI . You don't necessarily need to change the Windows 10 WHQL Support setting, but I would recommend settings Boot Mode Select to UEFI if it's not already there (Enabling Windows 10 WHQL Support...

Re: Sorry Canucks, looks like NCIX is going bankrupt

The truth might hurt but it is what it is. Tigerdirect and NCIX are both equals. They charged high prices and there's better alternates to both. I wish someone would replace bestbuy because there prices are over the top. NCIX charges high prices? Not too sure what you are talking about. In Canada, ...

Re: Would it make sense to replace a GTX 560 Ti with GT 1030?

There is also the issue of the motherboard having only gen 2.0 PCI-E slots.... Starting with version 1.0, all x16 slots are supposed to provide 75w through the slot alone. A stock 1030 is rated 30w (very impressive), so even an OC model should have lots of headroom on just the slot. And if you get ...

How good really are Fuji's lenses, compared to Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc.? Of course, used in an APS-C mirrorless context.

Doesn't look to me there are lots of 3rd party options for the Fuji system, hence my question.

I tend to wait until I have a full shopping list before ordering on Monoprice so dealing with the shipping costs are less of a problem for me. Re: really weird charging problem with my V20

Not to knock Amazon / NewEgg / B&H (who is that?), but when I comes to cables I'd check Monoprice first. We are talking chargers here. Besides, if you just buy one cable, Monoprice's shipping may not make it that worthwhile. Of course if you want nylon-braided or other fancy stuff on the cables...
