New Netgear Router...Config Questions

Hello: I recently installed a new Netgear R7800 wireless router, and I need some advice on a few settings... 1. IPV6 appears to be disabled. There are a bunch of possible settings...auto detect, auto config, 6-to-4 tunnel, and more. For years now, I've been under the impression that our IPV4 limitat...

Re: I might be ready to buy a new gaming laptop

Remember, some of them still slash their "oh's". Even now, almost 80 years into the modern computer era. My family line hasn't been European for somewhere between four and six generations. But I slash my zeroes, dash my sevens and zeds, and tick my ones. Mostly because if I don't, there's...

Re: I might be ready to buy a new gaming laptop

Good questions. I'm seeking a laptop because I travel, sometimes 4 or 5 times in a year. An SFF with external monitor won't do. I'll cut back on my 3 or 4 bay requirement if I can get more SSD capacity into one or two 2.5" bays. But I don't think I can compromise down to a single 2.5" bay;...

SSDs and Encryption

This topic occasionally comes up and then I never really pursue full understanding. But now that I'm more and more thinking of getting a new laptop, I think this is a good time to dig deeper. If I load a new laptop up with all SSDs (M.2 and 2.5", or a combination thereof) and I also want to tur...

Re: I might be ready to buy a new gaming laptop

Yes, I'm curious why you need three 2.5" bays. They just take up too much space inside a laptop to be offered in multiple configurations. I want to put in about 5-6 TB of storage. Bare-minimum is 4TB, but then that'll be mostly soaked up by my current drive contents. I do realize that M.2 is t...

Re: I might be ready to buy a new gaming laptop

Okay, I can take the bad tasting medicine. What would be a reasonable price range that I should expect? I"m looking at that MSI now, by the way... All right I've seen that one before. $3100 seems steep for "only" a Gen 7 processor. If I have to sell my underwear for this, I should be ...

I might be ready to buy a new gaming laptop

But it's not for games, mostly. Anyway, here are my needs: * 17" Screen. 4K would be nice. * Gen 8 i7; Gen 7 ok if other criteria met, price is more reasonable, and/or laptop is easier to self-service * capacity for up to 32 or 64 GB RAM (does not need to be fully populated to start) * One SSD ...

I'm terrible about having stuff on the floors in every room, so I'd probably confuse these little fellas. But I'm fascinated by them. Do they go back and dock when they need recharging?

Re: What are you cooking right now?

I baked bread and cooked two turkeys yesterday. Cooked the bone broth until about 3 am then when I was starting to fall asleep, I pulled the meat out, separated the bones, and transferred the broth to the fridge to see if there would be any significant fat separation. So far, it looks to have very l...

Re: Looking for a laptop, need some help

Another vote for Dell.

On this Dell page, most business laptops are under $1,000 and none are over $1,200-$1,300. I'd say you have lots of room to customize if you wish.

If you're not into Dell, there's also HP.

I'll do a brief marinade in just about anything. Beer, wine, Worchestershire, soy sauce, teriaki, mustard, pepper, paprika, Weber's magic dust stuff, hot pepper seeds, you name it. Or all of the above. The thing is, a brief marinade will give flavor to the outside of a thick steak, although it does ...

Re: Tofurky and other faux meats.

I love tofu on occasion. It's blandly delicious in salads, soups, as a side dish, or as a main course. As you say, it takes on the flavor of whatever you're cooking with it. It works well in stir fry, and I think I even saw some desert recipes for it once. It's truly versatile. I have noticed that s...

I recommend PDF Fusion by Corel. Currently, the store says it's $99 but I don't remember it being THAT expensive. I'm sure there are deals available. I bought it in 2014, so If I did pay that amount, it has averaged to $33 annually for me by now. In the first year I used it about a dozen times. Now,...

At current production rates, Frankie might put another 28-30 million points on the board, all within the next 10 days. I think I remember we did 16 million in the WHOLE MONTH back when I joined. That's amazing.
