Unfortunately, yes. However, I'm going to lose two of my bigadv setups tomorrow. :(

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

A little reprieve for you gerbils as I will be losing two of my bigadv clients in a few days, as the hosting server is going into production. Hopefully I'll be able to move one of those clients onto another server sometime next week. My ppd will definitely take a big hit until then.

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

I've noticed the newer gpu units 3469 and 3470, worth 450 and 445 respectively, are quite fast. My 8800GS/9600GSO cards with overclocked shaders (1700MHz) are beating my stock GTX 260 216 (1350MHz) in ppd. :o

Here is a link to the SMP2 bonus calculator.

To further provide examples of what you can expect from the new core in terms of ppd, my results are listed below -

Q9450 @ 2.8GHz ~ 6600ppd w/ 4 cores (native Mac OS 10.6)

Q9450 @ 3GHz ~ 4400ppd w/ 3 cores (Ubuntu 9.xx vm)

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

UGN is a collective, therefore the cost is distributed among its members. Is that not the purpose of forming this collective? That's my point! If you can rally a lot of people with idle computers to fold, that is a much more efficient use of power than custom building folding machines that otherwis...

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

I thought the bigadv big bonus units are still running on A2's? Eventually it will be moved to A3's plus the not-so-big ones with the bonus system (like those 602x's). Yes, that is true, the big bonus units are A2's. The point I was trying to make is that even though the version numbers are the sam...

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

Try it without -verbosity 9 and see what happens. That shouldn't have any effect on the performance as all that switch does is adjust the level of output in the log file. Looking at the list of systems runing the 'bigadv' switch here , they're either running under Linux or Mac OS; I don't see see t...

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

Changing gears... Am I maxing out the points on the a3 cores now? I'm only getting around 10k PPD. I thought it was supposed to be MUCH more than that? If you're doing units 6011 - 6025 then the ppd sounds about right. Units 2681 - 2683 are the big bonus units, where you should be netting 20k - 25k...

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

As long as you leave just the '-smp' switch, and not specify the number of cores to use, you will continue to get the A1 units in your mix. The only way that I know to get around it is to run a vm and allocate seven cores to the vm and leave the last core to the gpu client. Fair enough. I switched ...

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

Ahh, the switch should be '-smp 8' or '-smp 7', depending on whether you want to reserve one core for a gpu client. Are you running this in a VM? Nope it's in Windows 7 64 bit. From what I can tell, if you leave it as just "-smp", it uses the max number of cores available. I have the SMP ...

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

Why aren't you folding with the -BIGADV switch, which should you net you about 24,000+ppd? My i860 @ 3.5GHz is getting around 22,500ppd with the -BIGADV switch and I don't have to worry about the client picking up the lowly A1 units.

If you have a dual socket board equipped with quads then you can run -bigadv. I have a Mac Pro spec'ed out with two Harpertown chips and it runs -bigadv quite well.

Anyone here playing Valkyria Chronicles? It's undoubtedly one of the best turn-based strategy wargame I have played in a long while, though not without a few flaws, which are minor compared to what the game does right. I highly recommend this game.
