Re: For movies on disc (yeah), do you ever register your "digital copy?"

I redeem them all so that I can watch them from my Movies Anywhere account. It's really convenient to not have to swap out discs when you don't feel like it, but you always have that physical copy in case something goes wrong.

Re: Sorry Canucks, looks like NCIX is going bankrupt

TigerDirect was absolute ***t. Don’t even mention it in the same post as NCIX (RIP). NICX expanded into a market that was already covered by a well established high quality competititor ( Canada Computers ). Into a declining market, no less. But it goes beyond that. I'm in the 7th largest US city a...

According to a story I saw today on PCWorld, the two inactive dies aren't real cores. A quote from the article: "So did AMD really waste two perfectly good "Zeppelin" dies? Nope. Those other two "chips" are nothing more than spacers to help maintain the structural integrity o...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

It's only "free money" if you don't pay for your electricity. I'm mining with a GTX 1080 and a GTX 1060, which I had bought before I ever considered getting into mining. I was already using the electricity because I was folding before I switched to mining. I'm using slightly less now by m...

Re: Tell me about the new Crypto-Currency

Here's an interesting article about crypto-currency mining from last week on the PC Perspective website: PCPer Article It seemed easy enough to get going, so I'm trying it out. Supposedly my GTX 1080 will produce about $6-$7 per day using the Nicehash client, based on current values. I was already u...

Re: Bye, Bloomfield: First Big PC Overhaul

You may want to consider the G. Skill Flare X memory instead of the Trident Z. The Flare X has been certified to run on the new AMD platform. I'm not sure about how well the Trident Z works. I had some Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 that didn't work very well on my X370 board, only running at DDR4 ...

Re: Ryzen to the occasion

So, I'm back in business with my new build. I got the bricked motherboard replaced by Newegg, and got a couple of other new things, so here's what I have now: - Ryzen 7 1700X - Asus Prime X370-Pro motherboard - 16GB DDR4 - 512GB AData XPG SX8000 M.2 drive - Windows 10 clean install So far, everythin...

Re: Ryzen to the occasion

If I was buying a board now Gigabyte is probably who I'd go with also. The Asus boards are probably pretty good, but the story of them getting bricked during bios updates is a bit disconcerting. I bricked my Asus Prime X370-Pro doing a BIOS update the day after I got my system assembled - called As...

- I didn't do a clean Windows install, I just replaced my old CPU/Mobo/RAM with the new stuff. Windows handled it well, no blue screens or crashes. I put the Asus driver disk in and everything seems to have installed correctly. However, my copy of Windows is now no longer activated, so I guess I'll...

Re: Windows 10 and Ryzen - Performance Bug

If threads are scheduled evenly across the physical cores, SMT should increase aggregate throughput across all threads (but may also make the execution time for any given thread somewhat more variable). If the scheduler puts two threads on the virtual cores in a single physical core when there is s...

I built my Ryzen 1700X + Asus Prime X370-Pro last night, but haven't had a chance to really play with it yet. 1. It matches my pure white Samoyed dog perfectly! 2. My new GTX1080 (purchased with a Daily Deal listed on the Tech Report!) is disgusted by my current old 750W PSU.  She says she will most definitely not run Crysis until I upgrade. 3. I plan to upgrade with one of the new AMD Zen CPUs when they co...

Re: What's the last piece of tech you regret buying?

Not much lately, but I have some regrets from years past: 1. SyQuest SparQ parallel port drive - it quit reading disks shortly after I bought it and then the company went out of business. It took me several years before I could bear to toss it out. 2. Zip750 parallel port drive - I backed up a few p...

Best movie I've seen in a long, long time. I never go see a movie in the theater twice, but I'll be going to see this one again. I'm a Mad Max fan from way back when I saw the Road Warrior at a drive-in with my dad in 1982. I've been following the progress of this movie for several years now and it'...

Re: How do you like your bananas?

I love bananas, but I'm allergic to them. They make the inside of my mouth itch. The riper they are, the more they affect me. Once a banana gets any spots, I won't eat it. Therefore, I prefer mine all yellow or with just a tinge of green.

When my fiance had her house built, she had a pest control system built into the walls. The office park was posted for 45 MPH. Given the picture of the wreckage I think one can easily make the terminal velocity well into the triple digits. I see a lot of self-satisfaction in this thread. People who think that what they like or how they do things is the "right way." As in, "I wouldn't stand in line for a phone, thus anyone who does is just too fanatical." Or, "I prefer Android (or Apple), therefore anyone who p...
