One of the things that drive this affliction is that once you get a fairly decent system running, almost anything you change will make a change in the sound. This drives the bead people et al, as they can produce a slight change which they claim is a huge improvement. What? No. The only change the...

Re: Win7 vs. Win10 for gaming?

A bit tweaked are we?   IPC is the constant conversation an OS has with it's self. It is my theory, stated in my first post on this subject, that the IPC in win 10 is handled a bit better than the IPC in win 7, resulting in noticeable smoothing in game.  Calling me names is fun for you, I can work ...

Re: Win7 vs. Win10 for gaming?

Really. You don't understand that there are a crap load of processes running in an OS, windows especially. My guess, because that's all it is, is that win 10 does IPC better than win 7, so my game is smoother.. My "guess", and that isn't all it is, is that you have no clue whatsoever what...

Re: Win7 vs. Win10 for gaming?

If I remember correctly, most forms of inter process communication haven't really changed much over the past 30 years or so.  Now we have clouds, and grids, and whatnot running around, but it's all still built on the same pipes, sockets and message queues that we had before. More to the point: ESO,...

Re: Win7 vs. Win10 for gaming?

Inter Process Communication Oh? So ESO is implemented as a pack of processes using COM or something, which is notably faster on Windows 10? Or is it literally just a single-instance of eso.exe (like every other games...   ) and you're just completely making this whole thing up? https://www.go...

Re: Win7 vs. Win10 for gaming?

Win 10. I went to win 10 while I was playing ESO and it was immediately apparent that things were smoother, quite a bit smoother. Frame rate was about the same but it just ran better. Better IPC is my guess. Is "Win 10" a new computer chip or something? I thought we were talking about Win...

I've paid to read this crap for 30 years only because every year they have one poor soul whose job is to rumble around in the real world and note those bits of gear that punch far above their price tags.  They keep doing it and I'm eternally grateful.   It's why I bought My Sonic Frontiers SFL-1 Si...

I have about 100G on disc. I just put what I wanted to listen to next, no plan really, and it's a small part of my collection. Anyhoo what I do is so simple: Stuff CD in player/burner. Create dir with name of album and go in it. cdparanoia -B  To play: Go in dir xmms .   I am terminally lazy ... oh...

There are also both good file managers, File Commander is one, and a few terminals as well that you can do most anything on your Android system. Acquire root and you can do anything at all.

Probably not what you are looking for. ;)

I dunno, downloading it now. Chrome on Linux is just better at video than the fox.

I've been using an ASRock motherboard for the last three years with no problems.

I'm not sure it would be any use but I used to play with Cheops quite a bit in the old days. Does nice network pictures from nmap among other things. I think Ubuntu has it in repo.

The 2x16 for RAM is right but the point of DDR4 is speed. Get something faster, if at all possible.

I've run tube amps for a long time. I dealt tubes for a while, and was able to put a pretty nice system together, fairly cheaply.

I like em', a lot. They make digital input easier to take, and do sound wonderful.

Just went through mildly serious pain with an old Biostar doing stuff like this. Video card was keeping the BIOS from starting, and when it did boot, it bypassed the BIOS entry. Since M$ wants windows SQL to run on Linux, which make perfect sense for their cloud crap, this is just another tool for that effort.
