Re: Can you run VDSL Modem on ADSL Internet line ?

They would have to give you a VDSL port at DSLAM. Otherwise, it'll just run as an ADSL modem.

If your first contact person doesn't know, you'll need to ask others. Only the ISP would know if your house is within range, what speeds are available and whether a VDSL port is available.

What does HFS+ have that prevents bitrot? It's a very old filesystem that's been hacked up along the way to try to keep current.

It's not net neutrality, since net neutrality is not about peering agreements.

It's mainly about Netflix and ISPs arguing about delivery costs of data.

They're pretty loud and can get hot if you run them in constricted spaces. They're also voltage locked for Afterburner and other similar utilities, but you can use VBE7 to modify the bios and change the default voltages.

I'm going with micro-ATX because the premium for mini-ITX didn't seem worth paying for something like this. I tried to keep the prices and power consumptions (where applicable) for both builds. I imagine the CPU for the AMD build would be slightly better, but the mobo for the Intel build gives me P...

Re: Where does the task manager get CPU utilization numbers?

I'd imagine it's simply calculated by the amount of time that a process/thread is doing something on the CPU versus the amount of time the CPU is idle. A simple endless loop doing essentially no work will still show 100% utilization in a task manager. To get accurate utilization of CPU resources, yo...

Re: Bulldozer Performance Slides (Donanimhaber)

They look pretty legitimate to me and BD looks pretty great from the slides. It just about ties the 2600K in applications. I would buy that CPU, especially the 8120 at only $200 (and OC it to 8150 levels). From those slides, BD is only roughly comparable to the 2600k in "throughput" with ...

I would suggest that you wait for reviews before ordering anything. All of the recent (potentially unreliable) leaks suggest that each individual Bulldozer core is pretty weak, making it a mediocre desktop processor.

Re: CPU thermal reading drops 10 C after 1850 BIOS upgrade

It could have been that the new bios enabled certain power-saving functions of the CPU which were previously disabled (such as C1E). For my SB 2600K, idle temperatures are generally in the low 30C when it is SpeedStep-ed down to 1.6GHz.

Perhaps std::list or std::deque instead of using a queue? These containers allow you to access the individual elements but have different strengths and weakness in accessing, inserting and deleting elements.

Based on this thread, you should be able to use at 512MB SO-DIMMs and possibily even 1GB DDR SO-DIMMs if you can find them. http://forum.notebookreview.com/notebook-news-reviews/4093-dell-inspiron-1000-review-pics-specs.html One of the SO-DIMMs is soldered on though so you only have one upgrade slot.

Re: Help me! dual tuner hard drive

Anyone would have no problems with recording two HD streams at once while playing back a third; a single HD channel maxes out at ~19 Megabit/s or less than 2.5 MB/s (and Cable and Satellite will usually compress this further). I would go with the 5400 RPM for lower power use and noise though if the ...

Brisbane wasn't competitive versus Conroe and Allendale. Brisbane would need to be overclocked to 4+GHz to beat a modestly overclocked Wolfdale. At stock the E7200 is already competitive with the 6400+, it has a 9.5x multiplier which makes overclocking not very difficult and has remarkably low power...

This isn't even for the Phenom 9500, it's a review for the 9600. And a P35 MB is not even close to EOL.

How can that be a bad deal? Plus the 790 chipset is future proof for at least a year or two!!

And for that you have to buy a new MB, which eliminates any value in the Phenom option.
