Re: Mixing the GPU up

In my opinion, the ideal processor to support GPU folding is either one which can no longer fold productively on modern WUs like a sub 1Ghz Intel/AMD or the virtual processor on a processor with hyperthreading.

PS3 Supercomputer

Not really F@H related, but its a form of distributed/clustered computing anyway. Astrophysicist Replaces Supercomputer with Eight PlayStation 3s http://www.wired.com/techbiz/it/news/2007/10/ps3_supercomputer I think he overpaid, if he'd waited a few months he could've gotten it down to 399 per PS3 ...

FAHinfo has limited and quite wrong data I believe. My 3600x2 2x512 is running the exact times as my E6300 so wheres the advantage? I am producing more with 2610's than they say a 2605 will produce on a 3600x2 so I am convinced they are just complete FUD (to put it nicely). of course I will have tw...

Is that the Skewed reality you affliced Intel fan boys want to live in, or do you have some Real data? And don't point to some digital rag benchmarks using ddgromacs, gromacs, tinkers... this is SMP. We're no fanboys in the PS3/Xbox kind of way. We fold on what is best for the job at the time. I ad...

I voted C2D because the reality is that they are faster.

I am interested in getting a X2 however, since the high end X2 models are so cheap. In asia an X2 6000+ is cheaper than a C2D E6420.

Grub the distributed search engine

Wikia, the company behind Wikipedia, has purchased the Grub search engine off looksmart. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grub_(search_engine) http://www.reuters.com/article/internetNews/idUSN272470320070727?feedType=RSS It looks like a distributed project where spare CPU time is used to index webpages....

If its got an AGP slot I would get a 1950pro and run the GPU console client on it.

I would also ebay or beg another stick of ram since the GPU client can use up to 110mb or more

ok, well is there a way to verify that it does have my name in it? a quick way to get to the questions it first asks you? Open the file FAHlog.txt, at the top will be your username and team, I think the GUI client might have the same file as well, it should be in the same directory as the other FAH...

Overclocking or even running 100% at stock leads to Electromigration, which is why the old Celeron 300A chips used to quit after 3 or 4 years of running. Now GPU folders are finding that 1950pros at 3D Clocks tend to quit after a while too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromigration http://www.tw...

i recently moved and rebuilt my farm, so i'm going to have to take my name out of the "contenders" hat - these 10 hours of downtime have ruined my chances at getting ahold of that hardware you guys are betting with. ;) Dude, pass liquid_mage before thinking about joining the big leagues.

Well, here in Asia we can still pick up some new SocketA boards if we hunt hard enough. Even if you could buy one in your part of the world, it would probably cost as much as a 775 Asrock board and even a new celeron would fold the pants of that Duron. Probably time to retire that old girl then. Unl...
