Re: Accessing Linux Applications From Within MS Windows

Something else you might look into is Mobaxterm (http://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/download.html). It's a self-contained cygwin-type environement. It is just an .exe that has Xorg, OpenSSH, and many other tools built in. If you buy a professional license, you'll get a customizer that will let you create...

Re: Accessing Linux Applications From Within MS Windows

X forwarding over PuTTY (or OpenSSH, if you install Cygwin) with public key authentication is probably your best bet. I assume the application already exists? (If starting from scratch I'd suggest doing it as a web-based app, that way users could just use a web browser...) Yes, the group is creatin...

Maybe, the application can use a good amount of resources. If their end system is beefy enough they might not notice.

Accessing Linux Applications From Within MS Windows

Interesting project, trying to figure out the best way (for users) to access a Linux application (made in house) from within Windows. My initial thought is to use: ⋅ X forwarding in PuTTY ⋅ VNC Problem with my ideas above... they don't appear to be simple. For example, having to ...

Do Power Strips & Laptops Mix?

Do laptops benefit from being plugged into power strips? This is the question I've been asking myself lately... I've almost always use power strips for desktops to protect from power surges. Lately I've been hearing stories that laptops don't need to be connected to power strips. That laptops have b...

I'm in the process of creating a Windows print server, and was wondering which printer drivers to install. Re: Ports & Protocols Google Chrome Supports

@ekul Thanks, guess it's not practical to name all the ports & protocols that a browser uses. Best to to do a write up describing the common ports that will be allowed, and that everything else depends on the user's need & what the company firewall will allow/block.

Ports & Protocols Google Chrome Supports

There's a chance Google Chrome/Firefox can become the default browser at the company I work for. However, I must first defeat the corporate policy. In submitting an application for use on the company network, you have to list all the ports & protocols used by the requested application. Seems mor...

Solution: I got a replacement for my old router (Belkin N750DB wireless dual band N+), and now everything works. Still puzzled why that works, but thanks everybody for voicing in. It gave me some good data when working with Comcast.

If you fully encrypt an SSD, won't that make the SSD think it's full. Won't that decrease the performance of the drive?

Encrypting an SSD; is this the worst thing you can do to an SSD? I'm very curious, I can see losing some performance but how much?

Any takers?

Re: Microsoft IIS - End User Sessions

I want to say that Forms Authentication can work the same (user names & passwords). However, it has to tie into active directory. Do you know if that's true, and if it's possible to get Forms Authentication to work without AD?
