Re: Recommend a Chromebook

Here's an example of what I was thinking of: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/asus-asus-c301-13-3-chromebook-metallic-grey-intel-quad-core-celeron-n3160-16gb-ssd-4gb-ram-chrome-os-c301sa-bh91-cb/10490596.aspx What's wrong with going for this? Any better recommendations? Can't tell if this thing...

Re: Your favorite brand of coffee?

OK I did it and finally brought a jar of molasses and decided to try it with a cup of dark cacao and coffee. And oh boy was the aroma very strong after I opened the jar. Placed a teaspoon of it in my drink and tasted like I needed some more... A bit strong, but delicious.

I'd definitely taste whatever you buy before you cook with it.

Good idea, I'll try that.

Re: Basting meat with molasses in slow cooker?

I wonder if I could get permission to have a small bottle of dark rum for cooking purposes in my apartment? Probably not, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Anyway if I get permission and use a half a cup(4oz) mixed with other stuff, and cook the meat and veggies for 12 hours, how much alcohol is left aft...

Re: Basting meat with molasses in slow cooker?

I think you'd want to proceed cautiously on your first go basting meat - blackstrap is extremely strongly flavored, and I'd think its viscosity would make it hard to apply evenly. Maybe dilute it a bit, say with cider? Cool! I've never heard of blackstrap molasses, but it sorta sounded more like bl...

I thought alcohol was only an issue for HUD housing if it was abused? Or is there a "zero tolerance" policy in effect at some facilities?

Well in addition to housing those with mental illnesses, it is also a treatment center for those with alcohol and drug problems. So hence the rules.

Re: Basting meat with molasses in slow cooker?

Personally I would just use a few shots of dark rum with some spices added to it, but thanks to HUD I can't have booze in my apartment. So that is why I thought of using molasses.

Basting meat with molasses in slow cooker?

A few weeks ago or so I'm came up with a thought of basting Corn Beef brisket with molasses in a slow cooker with carrots and potatoes. Anyone here ever tried using molasses in a basting sauce for meat before? How did it come out? And I found this site: https://whatagirleats.com/blackstrap-molasses-...

Re: Is Flips Audio going out of business?

"Audiophile" is not the same thing as "someone looking for decent sound". Once you factor in the budget constraints experienced by mere mortals, and the "audiophilia nervosa" mindset, the two concepts can even become nearly orthogonal. Since I have hearing loss and liv...

I got canned a few jobs back over an absolutely garbage Buffalo NAS that I had no part in selecting or purchasing. Devel. Director wanted cheap NAS. I showed him cheap NAS. He insisted it be cheaper. Re: Is Flips Audio going out of business?

I suppose depending on the nature of the hearing loss, fidelity of your headphones/speakers may be less important. Do you know if it is across the board, or particular frequency bands that you have difficulty hearing? That I don't know, I think I'm due for another hearing check anyway. I'm hearing ...

Re: Is Flips Audio going out of business?

All this talk of $100 headphones?, I'd bet a pair of Koss Portapro would knock the socks of the Flips, given those pretty damning reviews. $30-35 if you look around, though I'm not a fan of the aesthetics. Hell, the Monoprice 8323 are still on sale and they're damn good for $16. I'd rate them above...

Re: Is Flips Audio going out of business?

I haven't paid much attention to Flips since I first heard about them years ago. They seemed like an expensive novelty to me. When they were asking the same amount of money as my ATH-M50x's, I couldn't see the point unless you really needed some small, under-powered travel speakers too. Do you real...

If returning to form means having a decent CPU offering against Intel while massively dropping the ball on the dGPUs and even more so on the HPC side, yeah. I don't know, while I could care less about HPC and servers, I do care about having CPUs and dGPUs with decent performance. Such as better per...

Problem is my motherboard only has 2 DIMM slots Lesson learned at least. I don't recommend buying mobos with 2 DIMM slots simply because there always seems to come a point in a PCs life where whatever RAM you had in there to start with isn't enough anymore. Much easier to be able to add 2 more stic...
