Re: I sure wish I have a 40" 4K display...

What is it that you really want to do? Set some priorities, and focus on them. Yeah I need to do that, don't I? (at myself). Ask questions in the GCC thread if you get stuck. Oh I will, indeed I will, but as it stands now it be after next week due to Thanksgiving and other things. But don't ...

Thanks, I was wondering if this was really a non-issue, or for that matter if I would even care at all.

Re: I sure wish I have a 40" 4K display...

Getting back on topic, how important is HDR right now? Yes I know I said I'm wanting 4K mainly so I can have more applications on screen at once, but I do play games and watch videos online. From some of the stuff I've been reading, I find it to be really strange that a lot of new 4K monitors don't ...

Re: "Will it run Crysis," 10-year anniversary edition

It always has been. If anything the probable reason it even caught on was how many Intel graphics chipsets back then were incapable of running pretty much anything. I played a demo of that game when it was released on my Pentium D 930 w/ 2GB of memory and a Nvidia 6600GT(128MB), and as I recall I c...

Re: I sure wish I have a 40" 4K display...

I single-handedly rewrote Digital Research's entire runtime library for their Pascal compiler when I was still in college. In 8080 assembly language. Original library was mostly written in Pascal; the performance and memory footprint of DR's implementation sucked a**. That was a big problem in thos...

Anyone else gone back and dug into Crysis performance now that hardware to run it has gotten up to 10 years newer? Dumbest joke ever? Machines when Crysis was launched could play Crysis. Why should I bother? "Can it run Crysis?" has been a running gag since the game come out since the gam...

If he is going to college full time and working on a game at the same time, then that really is awkward to do both. If the game is any good I'll buy it if there is a Linux version. He's also working as an art director on a VN for the anime club or sommat (this is at Berkeley) so yeah things are bus...

Re: GCC errors with compiling C code.

The university I attended was very focused on low-level coding and high concepts, which I really liked, but the most useful thing I ever learned is how to deal with floats. (Amazingly, computers can't really handle floats, and it's kind of smoke and mirrors.) It wasn't how a compiler works, AI work...

Re: I sure wish I have a 40" 4K display...

That is not bad for a 42" 4K TV. what did you have to do to make it suitable for computer use? Any downsides? I think it's on "gaming mode" (or something like that). A bit of playing with the color balance as well. In windows itself there was a bit of fiddling with sizing - and even ...

He's doing that all by himself? That is a lot of work, what kind of game is it? And going to college, at the moment. Which is probably awkward. I guess I should mention he is a heavy multimonitor advocate, so he'd probably have better displays if he could afford em. It's a JRPG styled game with som...

..40" to 43" is the really sweat spot for those who are heavy multi-taskers. I setup my father's system with a 42" 4k Hisense I got around Christmas for $230. It works well for his financial charting program. What I did to "augment" it was: -use his older 27" in *portr...

I've been programming for 40+ years, and only the last ~2 years of that have been on a 4K display (and that only at work, where I didn't have to pay for it). It's a "nice to have", not a "need". My friend who coded his own game engine and does his own art and music and all that ...

Re: I sure wish I have a 40" 4K display...

It is whatever people want it to be. I find good 1440p monitors and kit much more affordable, and if I'm being honest I wouldn't be anywhere near this broke if I'd stuck with 1080p heh. Re: I sure wish I have a 40" 4K display...

OK after reading some more stuff about 4K displays, I'm diffidently going to get a 4K monitor or TV sometime in the future hopefully next year. 4K also appears to be one those things that you go real big with or stay home. So here are my thoughts: Anything smaller then 32" is useless. 32" ...

Re: GCC errors with compiling C code.

That is a really strange question for someone to ask, as whiteboards are very widely used. A lot of the younger people in my office pride themselves on being able to understand a large wide area network in their head. As far as I can tell they see drawing everything out as unnecessary work. I'm sur...

Re: GCC errors with compiling C code.

The problem is time. In two or four years you can't possibly learn every single real-world application or cover every single scenario you're going to run into. Reading and writing text files in the file system (like Vhalidictes' situation) might be a pretty extreme example, but I've run into stuff ...

Re: I sure wish I have a 40" 4K display...

One thing I've noticed about 4K TVs from reading the reviews is that seems it is easier to find TVs with fairly decent text display(for a TV) then it is for 1080p TVs. 1080p panels are probably becoming a race to the bottom at this point. I find it amazing that I can get a 40" to $43" 4K ...

I rather have 4K. With VRR it is way too easy to lose yourself in whatever game you playing. I can see a person "losing" himself for a week and not even be aware of it. In any case gaming at 4K isn't the reason at all why I looking at this. I think you have the wrong VRR in mind whm1974. ...
