Re: Ryzen and Linux: A cautionary tale

Debian (and its derivatives) generally try to be broadly compatible out-of-the-box. Off the top of my head, the only compatibility issues I've had when installing Ubuntu have been related to GPU support (GPU drivers can be a bit of a clusterf*ck on any distro if you get unlucky), and my first attem...

Re: Ryzen and Linux: A cautionary tale

You would be well advised to use the latest versions of whatever distro you are using, and update to the latest kernel as well.

Re: End of an E®A

I thought way more than $100 million was lost by the DIVX/CircuitCity group over this. You know, I ran across a few of those DIVX discs back in my pirating days that I tried to copy/rip but no such luck. I guess since there were not that many of these discs sold and every movie that was on them were...

What was their brand of stereo components...Optima? Optimal? Optimus (not Prime)? I ended up buying a JVC. Had Radio Shack rechargeable batteries for the longest time, though was never a member of "The Battery Club". Radio Shack is going the way of the poor dumb Dodo, unable to adapt to a...

Even so, I still wouldn't bother producing quad cores for 2066 unless they will have higher clockspeeds at stock and support all of the features of the x299 chipset.

Intel needs to fire thier marketing team.

OK the more I read about Intel's new Socket 2066 CPUs, the less they any sense. Especially the quad core i5 and i7 ones. Personally I think Intel should have thought this out a bit longer than they did, as this sounds like a knee jerk response to AMD Threadripper then anything else. Here is I would ...

Re: The positive parts of Linux.

This is worst for people like myself that are learning about Linux. I get servers- today, and twenty years ago when I ran hlds for an in-house Counter-Strike server. I get attempting to use it as a sole desktop OS, so long as there's nothing that you *require* Windows for, or you can run a dual-boo...

Re: Mushroom ketchup and spices.

There's a restaurant chain in Washington & Oregon called McMenamins (IIRC) that serves up the best Ketchup I've ever tasted. It's basically homemade. Strange to recommend a restaurant for their ketchup, but... While I like fresh tomatoes, I don't like tomato based ketchup or sauces, or least no...

Re: The positive parts of Linux.

I don't think that matters. Some folks have built their identity around it, and honestly, I don't want to build my identity around an operating system. It's like macOS in that way. Or the AmigaOS folks? Amazing enough you can still buy PowerPC boards to put this on, or use old PowerPC based Macs in...

The most zealous, vocal Linux users who have to tell everyone they use Linux any time the topic of PCs comes up make door-to-door salespeople look positively docile. We've been around this block at least a dozen times before. This. Hey at least I'm not going around screaming it's "GNU/Linux!!!...

Re: The positive parts of Linux.

IMO the best, and at the same time worst part of Linux is how you are free to infinitely tweak it to suit your needs. It makes Linux incredibly versatile if you know what you're doing, but at the same time the tweaker culture behind it also raises the bar for users. You're expected to spend time an...

Now I've been watching this guy's Youtube channel for awhile and this episode brings up a good point about how much negativity there is in the Linux world. Spread those spent mushroom bits on some sheet pans and leave them in the sun for a couple of hours and you've got some concentrated flavor right there. Grind it up...

I think you've also got some pretty strange ideas about what would be a potentially marketable/profitable product. That's at least as big of an issue as motivation and funding. Yeah looks fairly simple enough to do. I'm surprised that Jas Townsend and Son isn't selling this themselves.
